Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hello! I am Beautiful Skylar. I am so pretty.. I am 50 pounds and am between 1-2 years old. You know a lady Never tells her age so this is my foster Mom’s best guess! I am a lab mix – Those who rescued me seem to think I may have either border collie or flat coat retriever in me somewhere too, because of my longer fur! I am not telling them for sure! I am a typical lab mix--friendly--loves everyone, people and little dogs big dogs, and of course I LOVE attention! I love to meet new people and dogs.
So what's my story? I found myself in a high Kill shelter in Texas by no fault of my own. I already had two strikes against me – I was black and Heartworm positive! You see in Texas –There millions of stray dogs, if you are a “black” dog you have almost no chance of getting out of the shelters alive. Black dogs are the first to be Euthanized and have very little time to find a home. Fortunately this nice lady recognized my great qualities and contacted Brooke’s Angels Rescue to see if they had room for me and could help me find a home. Fortunately they said yes! I can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing I will not have to take the walk down the hall to the “scary room”! I have completed my heartworm treatment and I am good to go! Ready to find a very own home of my own!
I am so happy that I have had a second chance at life!!!
UPDATE: From her foster parents... Skylar is one of the smartest dogs we have seen! She lives with to fur siblings, a rabbit and a cat.
House trained?
- she hasn't had a chance honestly yet to identify that. we take her out and she goes. So.., no accidents yet but she hasn't asked to go yet
crate trained ? yes beautiful in crate
leash? She understands the leash I don't think she's really been trained on the leash. I've been walking her in the fields and around the yard so she understands border and does well, pulls a bit but I can get her to heel. she doesn't shy from the leash at all.
Over all energy level? Medium : if she isn't exercised. If someone gets her going she wants to play so as long as she gets some exercise she seems to be very happy just hanging out or cuddling
Does she have basic commands down? I believe I'm teaching her those now she is very quick to learn and gets sit, come, wait most of the time. Except when she doesn't want to... She's a year and a half old! Lol. I can't say she actually has any of them "down"
Does she have any fears? Not that I've seen so far. Gets a little schetshy with quick sitings once in a while like a bird coming out of a bush.
She is also fine with cats hardly even Acknowledges them once she is acquainted
If you are interested, please email sherryl825@cox.net for an application form. My adoption fee is $450 but that includes my spay, microchip, all my shots, deworming, and health certificate.
