URGENT Special Needs Shelter Dog

My eyes are soft, my soul is deep, and I am deaf. I will follow your eyes though and because I am so attentive, will quickly learn what you expect of me. My name is Helena.

Helena is one of the sweetest Akita-mixes we ever encountered. She was originally found as a stray, possibly dumped by an Akita-Labrador breeder in Sonoma County, CA. She captured the hearts of thousands, and people from all around the world donated to cover her transport costs to Southern California, where she is now placed with Angel Dogs Foundation Deaf Dog Ranch.

And travel in style, she did. A local pilot who donates his time for rescue, flew Helena down in a private plane, and Helena got to sit in the backseat, in her little red harness, and watch.

Helena is very friendly with other dogs, so much so the shelter in Sonoma County elicited her help as a "temperament tester." Other dogs might have been bothered by her, but she could care less about them.
