My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rocky is a Rottweiler Mix, his estimated date of birth is 2/7/12 and he weighs 75 lbs. He is up to date on all of his shots and he is fixed. Rocky is OK with people but is not good with kids, cats, or small dogs. Rocky has a habit of jumping and he has a tendency to try to escape so he would need a home that was very secure. Rocky has food aggression and is very possessive of toys and people. He can sometimes have an over protective drive to certain people.  Rocky can be very vocal and would require a home with a lot of space as Rocky prefers to roam and would become destructive if restricted in a small space. Rocky is not good with new people or places and can be aggressive to other male dogs. He requires regular grooming and requires a special diet. Rocky is afraid of water and can become agitated by running water or large areas of water. He has a habit of dumping out his water dish. Rocky is not good on a leash despite repeated training and still has issues with house training and marking.

We do not have a central location to see our dogs.  Meeting any dog is by appointment ONLY currently. Appointments can be set up to meet any dog in San Diego. Currently we are unable to do any out-of-state adoptions.

If you are interested in a particular dog please FILL OUT an Adoption Application at our website @ http://bajadogrescue.org/ready-to-adopt/adopt and we can schedule you for an appointment to meet with a particular dog if it is available. We do require an application if you are interested in adoption.  If you are interested in potentially adopting please fill out an application at http://bajadogrescue.org/ready-to-adopt/adopt. Your application will be reviewed and you will be placed on a waiting list for the dog(s). If your name comes up on the waiting list(s) we will contact you. You can see the dogs we have available for adoption on our website at http://bajadogrescue.org/shelter-dogs/

Additional adoption info

Step 1
Fill out an application at our website. Do this as soon as possible.

Step 2
Submit your adoption application to us. It may take 24-48 hours before your application is processed and you receive a response back.

Step 3
If your application is approved, we will email you to schedule a "Meet & Greet appointment with deposit for Saturday. We only do appointments and adoption events on Saturday. Our cut off day/ time is Thursday at 5pm to set up any appointments for that week on Saturday. Please make sure you take any family members and other dogs to see how the initial introduction goes. That makes the entry into the new home easier for the dog and for you. You will be given a time and day, usually Saturday to meet your prospective pet. You will be given a one hour appointment window where you can come to meet them. When you get an appointment time and day the dog is locked in for you to see only and will not be released to any one else.

Step 4
Meet your prospective new pet. Spend time time with them and see how it goes.

Step 5
Contract & Payment. You must sign an adoption contract and provide payment. If your "Meet & Greet" goes well, you will complete an adoption contract at the appointment and can take the dog home then. We ask for a suggested adoption donation to help us cover spay/neutering, shots, medical treatment, food, and supplies. These suggested adoption donation amounts only partially cover the cost of expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Then you and your new best friend live happily ever after. It's as simple as that!

Step 6
Take your new best friend home!

It can take a good 72 hrs for a dog to really adjust to his/her new environment. A lot really depends on the dog's past so the prospect of adopting should be well-thought-out & the commitment should be taken seriously.
