Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Brodie is a handsome and somewhat chonky orange cat who was transferred to us in September from the Spokane Humane Society, where he'd been diagnosed with a chronic patellar luxation (dislocated kneecap). SHS didn't have an orthopedic specialist to try and fix the knee, and didn't want to amputate due to concerns about mobility (as Brodie was a whopping 18 pounds when released to them).
Well, we tried - we put him on a diet, and had surgery done to stabilize the patella. But Brodie wouldn't cooperate; after surgery he refused to do anything (including eat or use the litter box) if wearing an e-collar, and wouldn't straighten or use his leg. The kneecap slid back out.
We tried surgery again, but Brodie wouldn't cooperate with physical therapy, and pulled his sutures out.
We tried splinting, but that was even worse than an ecollar as far as Brodie's concerned, and he refused to move at all other than chewing and fighting with the splint, which he managed to displace.
So... 2 months later and down to a relatively slim 14 pounds, we gave up and amputated. And now Brodie's doing great. Gets around well, loves everyone, thinks life is grand. What an ingrate! He's all healed up from surgery, and ready for a new home. He will need to be an indoor only cat, and his weight will need to be managed so that he doesn't return to his prior heckin'-chonk ways.
He is microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, FIV/FeLV negative, and ready to go. Loves petting and cuddling, but not so much being carried. Fine with calm dogs, but did not appreciate being pestered by his foster-family's kitten.
A generous friend has pre-paid Brodie's adoption fee!
Please contact Jes at 509-690-7343 or docjesadams@gmail.com to find out more about adoption or to donate toward the cost of Brodie's care.
