My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey y'all! My name is Lainey & I am the sweetest little nugget of a dog who is on the search for my very own last name.

Quick Facts:
Breed: Maybe a Carolina Dog X, Maybe a Shar Pei X, but she'd definitely be worth the DNA test.
Age: 4 years old (DOB ~6/2019)
Size: 40#.
Crate Trained: Yes.
House Trained: Yes!

--=============================

Lainey was rescued from the shelter in December of 2020 after being a community dog riddled with demodex, a non-contagious skin mite, for quite some time. When she arrived in the rescue, Lainey was diagnosed with a heart murmur, entropion (all 4 of her eyelids were flipped inside out), a severe skin infection, demodex and ear infections in both ears. It has been quite the road to recovery for us all, but this sweet potato so desperately wants her very own last name.

Lainey checks all the boxes of the perfect personality checklist. She is super loving and will "give hugs" upon request but is still adapting to the wonderful world of snuggling. She has a very carefree puppy personality, is relatively quiet unless it's mealtime, and won't force you out of bed in the mornings. She loves snuggling on the hammock outside + will accept scratches from any human ever, so we've marked 'great guard dog' off her resume. Lainey is gentle and does very well with the 13 & 9 year old humans she lives with and doesn't totally invade the 6 month old human's space, though we are working on giving space during meal times - she really puts those puppy dog eyes to use (she has also figured out the high chair means free food).

This girl is a toy fanatic - she really should be hired out as a tester. Tug toys, chew toys, rope toys, those weird rubber toys.. she'll take them all. She enjoys a good antler and LOVES an adventure - whether that be a walk around the neighborhood, or a car ride to Tractor Supply. When Lainey gets excited, she activates her "helper puppy" tendencies and will grab the closest leash and help walk herself, or her foster sibling.

We are working on basic commands, but she is very food motivated and is a blast to train. She does well with other dogs with proper introduction - though she may never be a dog park type of dog - she can co-exist comfortably in a multi-dog household of different activity levels if given the space + time to adjust. She can be a little bossy at first, but has made friends easily thus far and REALLY loves her play sessions with her foster brother where they see how quickly they can empty the toy bin. She has met a few cats on leash and has no reaction. She is improving greatly with the bell alert system we have implemented to master house training, but does know what the "outside" command means.

Now for the fun part:
*Lainey has battled multiple skin issues due to her lack of care and nutrition before being rescued and allergies will likely be a lifetime issue. Her adopter should be prepared to have her on special food (she currently eats Royal Canin - $130 per bag every 7-8 weeks), limited treats (she mostly snacks on fruits and veggies), weekly medicated baths to keep her allergies at bay, as well as Bravecto.
She does also see her dermatologist every 3-6 months to ensure the current regimen is still the best thing for her - her medicine changes with the seasons usually and she does experience flare ups from time to time. Currently, she takes several different medications 3x a day. The positive here is that she LOVES med time because it means snaaaaaaacks!*
