Meet Colby, a 6-year-old male beagle mix weighing about 58 pounds. This is Colby’s second time at the shelter—he first arrived in December 2021 as an owner surrender when his family moved. After being adopted in February 2022, Colby returned to the shelter on December 27, 2024, due to his tendency to be overly protective of his owner. Colby doesn’t have a history with other animals, so his behavior around resident dogs or cats is uncertain, and a meet-and-greet with any dogs is recommended. He has experience living indoors and is looking for a patient and understanding owner who can help him work through his protective instincts.

More about this shelter
The Daviess County Animal Shelter receives thousands of animals annually. Some of them are returned to their owners, some find new homes, but unfortunately some are never placed in a home. This is why it is so important that these animals find new homes.
