Hoku (Hawaiian for Star) is a 3.5 year old neutered male Australian Shepherd. He is very friendly with our other Australian Shepherd and he is a very sweet and attentive dog with adults inside the house (he loves to cuddle unlike our other Aussie) but outside he is very protective of our property and aggressive towards other dogs he views as a threat.

He has had training since he was a puppy and responds well to both a bark collar and an e-collar. He does have a history of acting out when he feels threatened - he bit a neighbor who reached over our fence to pet Hoku while he was actively barking which the neighbor apologized for and he also bit our 1-year-old because Hoku was in his kennel and had nowhere to go when our child crawled toward him in the kennel.

Hoku will do best if he is the only dog in a working situation (farm or ranch situation ideally) but he would very likely warm up to another dog once that dog is in his circle of trust. Otherwise he would need to constantly have his bark or shock collar on to prevent aggressive behavior.
