My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bailey is a very sweet little lady (DOB 06/06/21) who is looking for a very special pet pawrent to walk
through life alongside.

We're not sure what Bailey went through before she came to us at 6 months, but in her foster home
with behavior modification training and (inexpensive) medication, she is overcoming her anxiety and
becoming a very good dog!

She is a happy girl with her trusted person, but can quickly become overwhelmed with multiple
people in the room. Due to this, she would need a single person home.

Bailey needs a relatively consistent routine she can count on which helps greatly with her anxiety.

She would do best with one person in a home without a lot of people coming and going. But when other people need to be in the house, Bailey does fine in a separate room. She also uses the doggy door and does well by herself when foster mom is out of
the house (occasionally she will chew something she shouldn't, but that tends to happen when foster
mom is gone for longer than usual).

Bailey's favorite things to do are going on walks, runs, or hikes! She also loves her stuffed toys and
her BamBones and treat-filled Kongs to chew on. She might do well with another dog around her
size (35lbs), but an off-leash meet and greet is highly recommended to ensure it's a great fit.
Because she loves to chase/has a strong prey drive, no kitties or small pets.Previously, Bailey had some response issues to distractions on walks (bicyclists, runners, cars, other dogs, etc.), but with her training and medication, she has learned (with foster mom's help) to re-focus herself.

Bailey is looking for an angel, someone extra patient and loving who understands that her training is
on-going. Training is not burdensome: 10 minutes twice a day focusing on commands and a
practice that helps her get used to another person in the room; keeping to a consistent schedule;
and lots of exercise and play!

Special bonus: her behavioral consultant has offered on-going training for Bailey, and foster mom
will be available for questions and help!!! Bailey is looking for a committed person to be her best friend
and love her, quirks and all.

If you'd like learn more about Bailey and arrange a meet and greet, please email us at FosterWMR@aol.com.

More about this shelter

Our shelter had it's beginnings in the mid 90's and formally became a nonprofit organization in 2001. The dream of Lee and Sophia DiClemente has grown to be the largest no-kill animal shelter in New Mexico. Lee passed in 2010, but Sophia carries on with the support of a small staff, a large number of volunteers, and numerous donors - large and small.
