Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mac is an energetic, athletic, and fun-loving young boy that turns a year old in December. He thrives with daily games and exercise including playing fetch, going for walks/hikes, and getting to use his nose.
He is sweet and kind-hearted, even if he can be rather clueless about his size and strength, and prefers to be near his person during down time. In his previous foster home he would lie at his foster mom's feet, especially when she was in the kitchen. He is uncertain of strangers and needs to be given a little time and space until they have become familiar to him.
Mac is partly the product of breeding for hunting dogs that will keep at it until the job is done, and he can be persistent when he wants something. He will do best with an owner that can handle him in a gentle, intelligent, and steadfast manner. He may or may not be suited for hunting but can certainly do fine on basic training and probably dog sports.
The breeder claimed he is a wirehaired pointing griffon though he certainly doesn't look like a purebred or well bred one.
Mac is generally okay with other dogs but he tends to follow their lead if they get rambunctious and misbehave - not that he can't do so on his own but much less so. So more settled, well-behaved companions are definitely better.
He likes to chase cats and while he mostly sees it as a fun game, the cats don't find it particularly amusing, and it could end up poorly.
If you would like to meet Mac you can print a pre-adoption form from our website @northernstardogrescue.org and email us @ northernstardogrescue@gmail.com
