My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kenna is almost 4 years old and weighs 62lbs. She is very slender and sleek with a blue speckle in one of her eyes- just a beautiful dog. Kenna loves to cuddle and is pretty calm and gentle. She loves to play with other dogs and she plays hard! She gets along with most male dogs but is not a fan of other female canines. Kenna does well with kids, is house trained and knows basic commands. It takes her a few minutes to get used to strangers, but once she knows she is safe she does just fine with anyone. This poor girl has been at the shelter most of her life - she was adopted as a puppy and brought back, been here since July 2023. Please consider opening your hearts and giving her a chance to enjoy a normal life, outside of the shelter and in a loving home! We charge a $150 adoption fee for shelter dogs, $200 for Paws in Prison trained dogs, and $75 for cats. To make application to adopt a pet you will need to go to our website schspets.org and complete an online application and someone will call you to discuss adoption process and to make an appointment to visit our shelter and cat cottage.

Our shelter is located at 17379 Highway 9 South in Mountain View, AR 72560. We are open M-Sat., from 2:00 to 5:00 and mornings by appointment only by calling 870-269-5200.

More about this shelter

The Stone County Humane Society is a 501(C)(3) private organization, not a government entity that was formed in 1999. We rescue dogs and cats and are a no-kill shelter but we are not an open take in facility. We are currently operating from our new shelter building recently completed in August 2016 and a cat cottage. Our organization is managed by a volunteer board of 10 individuals and a full-time paid employee shelter manager that handles the day to day operations, and three part-time paid employees that feed and care for the animals and keep the facility clean. Most of our daily operations are funded by proceeds from a Second Chance Shop in town and donations from individuals. We also provide low cost spay/neuter clinics to the people of our county with help from a local vet.
