Red is a handsome young pup who needs out of the shelter for good!! Shy when he first came to the shelter, Red has come so far and is ready for the next chapter of his life. He spent six months in a loving foster home- here’s what we learned:
- He did well with the resident dog - He is well- behaved when left alone (but can occasionally be mischievous) - He is housebroken - He enjoys rope toys, stuffed animals, and tug o’ war - He is a snuggly, playful boy with a couch potato side - He can still be nervous when encountering loud noises or new things out in the world, so needs a family who will help him continue to build confidence
Red is very loved in the shelter- here’s what volunteers have said about him:
“I have walked Red quite a few times and I think he is really coming along. On our walks he has moments he seems to be enjoying the walk and his tail comes untucked. He does startle easily, but I have been able to stop on our walks and gently pet him, which he has begun to accept more of from me. I hope for a patient home for him.”
“I love Red! He was easy to leash, calm with four feet on the floor. We left the kennel area quickly and easily. He walked with a loose leash for most of our walk and checked in with me often. Red is still building his confidence, and he does spook in response to noises in the park, but he recovers quickly. He sat perfectly for treats and took them from my hand nicely. Accepted pets and remained calm during the entire walk. Very sweet boy.”
“First time walking Red. We headed for the nearest door so he could get away from all the kennel noise. We first went to the play yard so he could explore on his own, then we resumed our walk. He was nervous for the first few minutes, but gradually started to relax. When we reached a quiet area where we were by ourselves, his tail came up and he was soon exploring all the interesting scents. He would startle at loud noises and sudden movement, but I felt like he was slowly gaining trust. We had the path to ourselves on the far side of the lake, and he continued to explore with a loose body and wagging tail. Red is rather overwhelmed in the shelter, but in this first walk he showed me what a fine dog he can be once he forms a trusting relationship with his human partner. I look forward to taking him out again soon.”
“First time walking Red today and he`s indeed sweet but nervous. Didn`t have issues with touch and loved snacks! I hop
