My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cowabunga, dudes and dudettes! I`m Rocksteady, the four-legged ninja with a heart as big as the sewers. Picture this: a playful pup who knows how to sit for a treat and throw high fives whenever attention is needed. Yep, I`ve got the moves! Whether it`s chasing a ball, splashing around in a pool, zooming at top speed, or simply chilling with my human pals, I`m your go-to canine companion for all things fun. Just like the ninja turtles stick together, I love to spend time around my fellow canine pals! I have made some friends here at the shelter and they have helped me come out of my shell.
I may not have a turtle shell or carry nunchucks, but what I lack in ninja weapons, I make up for in charm and affection. I am a sucker for belly rubs and lots of snuggles with my favorite person! I gotta admit that I`ve been here for quite some time, mostly because new people can be a bit scary for me. The shelter environment takes a toll on me and I really want to find a forever home so that I can begin to unwind and relax. I promise that once you get to know me I am intensely loyal and protective of my loved ones. If you`re looking for a laid-back, cowabunga dude with a knack for high fives and a heart full of love, look no further. I`m Rocksteady, ready to be the Michelangelo to your pizza party – let the good times roll!

More about this shelter

The Animal Defense League was established in 1934 by a group of individuals, “for the prevention of cruelty to animals; to promote kind and humane treatment of animals; and to aid and assist the enforcement of laws enacted for the prevention of animal cruelty.”

In 1961, ADL moved to its present location in the easily accessible northeast part of San Antonio. Its campus encompasses more than 12 acres and includes a two-acre pet park. On the property is an Adoption Center with a small retail store, and a separate 5,000 square-foot Clinic which houses our veterinary hospital that provides onsite spay/neuter surgery, surgery for injured and ill animals, and ongoing medical care for all ADL resident animals.
