Angel
5 yr old, female, mix breed, 58lbs, spayed, HW-
Angel was surrendered to the shelter with 14 puppies January 06, 2023. Unfortunately, even with spreading the puppies out over bottle feeders to lessen her load, she lost all 14 babies to fading puppy syndrome. Rightly so, Angel was devastated over the loss of her puppies and mourned for them for a good while afterwards.
Initially, she was very hesitant with us, especially being near her little ones, and would back off from us with a soft growl. After the loss of her pups, she started to calm down and allow us to pet her and take her for walks. Turns out, once her personality started to shine through, she was an extremely friendly and outgoing dog! She absolutely loved everybody she met after she got over her shyness.
Angel is still very much that silly, goofy girl who does not meet a stranger. She sees anyone she encounters as a new best friend, and she treats them accordingly. She adores children, and is very gentle with them, almost treating them like one of her own. One of her favorite ways to show affection is to give hugs. Due to her size, it's almost like hugging a human! She will lay her head down on your shoulder or chest and just drift off while she gets her back and shoulders scratched. She also enjoys toys, and making them explode suddenly, and the same goes for her fluffy beds. She loves snuggling and sleeping with a blanket though.
We recently took two vans filled with some of our spayed and neutered dogs to an adoption event, and Angel was included in that group. She was an absolute superstar! Nobody could walk past her without stopping to give her some love, and comment about her being so well behaved and how gorgeous she was. She stayed nice and quiet in her pen until she was approached, and then she was all about making a new friend. Several people walked her around the grounds and she was the perfect lady. She met other dogs and people of all ages, sizes and colors.
Sadly, as much love and attention she received, she still came back to the shelter with us. We could tell she was defeated. A year in a shelter is a long time.
Another super important thing to know about Angel is that when she came in to the shelter, she was high heartworm positive. With taking the monthly heartworm pills for an entire year, when she was tested again a few days ago, it came back negative! That is absolutely astounding to us. She is definitely ready to move forward with a new family.
We don't understand why this girl is still with us after all this time. She is an excellent car rider. She loves everyone. She's great with other dogs. She's great at events. She doesn't mind being dressed up and tolerates it with a quiet dignity. She is kennel trained. Fantastic on a leash - just a little strong at times. She's already spayed. She's had a rabies vaccines. She's now heartworm negative.
Can someone please open their house and hearts to this girl? You won't regret it in the least. She's perfect
