My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Copper!

Playful High-Energy Affectionate Fun

Hi there! My name is Copper, and I’m a fun-loving, high-energy pup with a heart full of affection for my people.

Once I get to know you, I’m as loyal as they come, forming deep bonds that make every day brighter. It takes me a little time to warm up to new faces, so I appreciate slow introductions that let me process things at my own pace. But trust me—once you’re in my circle, I’ll shower you with love and joy!

I’m a smart cookie with an impressive list of skills. I’ve mastered crate training, housebreaking, and commands like kennel, place, sit, down, stay, heel, and recall. I’m eager to please and thrive under a strong, confident leader who can guide me with structure and consistency. Training at the Becket School of Canine Training has brought out the best in me, and I’m excited to keep learning with my forever family. You’ll have lifetime access to support from my trainer.

Here’s what I love most:

  • Running and playing to my heart’s content—outdoor adventures are my jam!

  • Going on walks with my favorite humans.

  • Snuggling and soaking up affection from the people I love.

And here’s what I’m not a fan of:

  • Loud noises—they can make me a bit nervous.

  • New situations that feel overwhelming.

  • Sharing my prized possessions (like food or toys) without clear boundaries.

I’ve done well meeting other dogs, but I do have some strong resource-guarding tendencies, so careful management is key. I haven’t met kids or cats yet, so a home with older or no children and no small animals would be the best fit for me. Slow, structured introductions to new situations and pets will help me feel safe and confident.

Health-wise, I’m in great shape but have shown occasional sensitivities to environmental factors, like certain laundry detergents or fabric softeners. Benadryl has helped when needed, so it’s something to keep in mind.

My dream home would have:

  • A confident and experienced owner who can provide the boundaries and leadership I thrive on.

  • A fenced-in yard where I can run and play freely.

  • An active lifestyle to match my energy and enthusiasm.

  • A family who values training and will continue using the tools that help me succeed.

Fun fact about me: I may have a sensitive side, but I’m full of playful energy and love to share my zest for life with the people I trust. If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate companion who’s ready to keep growing with you, I could be your perfect match. Let’s start our adventure together!

Copper is ready to share the next chapter of his life with someone who has strong leadership and unconditional love. Are you ready to welcome Copper into your home or provide him a home while he waits for his forever family to find him? More about this rescue

Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue was started in 2008 by a group of Dane lovers who desire to help Danes in need. The rescue is made up of all volunteers who lovingly give of their time and money to help these wonderful dogs. Volunteers include people from every walk of life, all with one thing in common, love of Great Danes.

Each animal coming to the rescue is temperament tested, given a physical, vaccinated, wormed, checked for heartworm and tick borne illnesses and treated as needed. All dogs are sterilized before being re homed. The dog is then placed in a foster home to wait for someone to love it forever.
