My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Layla is a Patient Paw, please ask about their reduced adoption fee and the possibility of a sleepover!**

Layla is available through our "Adopt From a Foster Home" program. Please email adopt@calgaryhumane.ca if you are interested in scheduling a meeting. Please do not make an appointment through our online booking calendar, as Layla is not available to meet on site.

Age: 1 year old
Weight: 26.5kg / 58.4lbs

A bit about me:
- has lived kids 11+; can be jumpy - all interactions should be supervised
- unknown history with cats; history of chasing small animals on walks; introductions should be slow and supervised
- dogs okay pending successful introduction ( has lived with dogs previously)
- has displayed signs of separation stress

Layla is an affectionate, smart, and lively adolescent pup looking for her forever home. After a bumpy start to life, she is rapidly learning all of the skills necessary to be a loving and loyal family pet. This social butterfly loves to play with both people and other dogs, making a lasting impression on anyone that's lucky enough to meet her. When she gets the chance to make new friends, her excitement may cause her to become jumpy. This means that any interactions with young children should be supervised as she learns a more appropriate way of introducing herself. Don't worry though, Layla is highly intelligent and a fast learner! She already knows sit, lay down and shake a paw - and is always looking to please her humans. She is also house trained and continues to make great progress on her crate training! On walks, Layla is responding well to the leash. She has ample energy for long hikes in the mountains, but is equally content to play tug-of-war at home, entertain herself with a bone or a chew toy, or curl up for snuggles with her humans. Layla has shown signs of separation stress and struggles when in shelter, or left alone for long periods. She seeks a home comfortable with managing separation stress and helping her work towards confidence when left alone. Layla is currently handling short absences well, and the adoptions and behavior teams can support you with making a plan to help set Layla up for success. Layla is currently hanging out in a foster home as she's really not a fan of the shelter, so please email our adoptions team to set up a meeting with Layla today!

More about this shelter

CONNECTING LIVES SINCE 1922

From our earliest beginning, Calgary Humane Society was more than a shelter. As Calgary’s first-established animal welfare organization, connecting the lives of animals and people while providing essential animal services to the community remains our central priority.

Today, Calgary Humane Society (CHS) shelters almost 5,000 homeless animals each year. In 1922 we set out to help as many animals as we can and we will continue to do so by fostering the values of respect, compassion, commitment, teamwork, integrity and innovation.

Our mission is to help as many animals as we can.

Our vision is using innovative strategies to lead, inspire, and educate in the humane treatment of companion animals, fostering an enlightened community that consistently demonstrates respect and compassion for all animals.

Our dream is a community where animals are valued, humanely treated, and live enriched lives.

Calgary Humane Society is committed to creating a better tomorrow through education and collaboration.
