My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Rosie, 8 yrs old. < Cue sad music > I’m just an old girl looking for a new home, and this is how you see me most of the time, lying around. My human mom died and I was surrendered to the shelter because her family couldn’t keep me. I have all the hip problems, hearing loss and beauty marks that come with age. I’ve been the perfect girl at my foster home. They have a little dog that tries to be mean to me, and I don’t give her the time of day (even when she nipped at my face). I’m housetrained and stand at the back door to let them know I want out and give them a” woof” when I’m ready to come in. I would use their doggie door, but it’s too small for me. I like to nap in their backyard or on the shaded porch. I’m quiet, sweet, calm and don’t jump on the furniture (because my hips won’t let me!). Although I’m nearly deaf, I’m alert. I watch all their moves and follow them just in case they’re going to do something that might be interesting to me. I’m only able to do short walks and get excited when I see the leash. There are so many good things to see and smell “out there!” My fosters say I’d be the perfect girl for someone who works from home because I’m such a good companion and not a pest. I could get along with or without another dog, but I’d prefer if they were willing to share their humans. They did notice that I can’t have a regular dog bed because I will pull all the stuffing out, so I’ve been sleeping in a wicker bed with a rug and doggie blankets. I’m just a 60 pound hunk of love looking for a soft place to spend my golden years! Give me a chance to prove it!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an adoption application for dogs and cats. You may complete the application ahead of time and email it to animalsvc@georgetown.org, fax it to 512-930-3672, or bringing it with you. Applications will be reviewed but not finalized until the applicant has met the animal to make sure it is a good match. The process takes 2-3 business days and the applicant will be notified whether or not they are approved for the adoption. If the applicant lives within the city limits of Georgetown, the fee is $75, $70 if outside the city limits. It includes city license (if applicable), spay/neuter, rabies and basic shots, microchip, dog heartworm test , wellness check with a contracted Georgetown vet, bag of food and lots of information on pet care. We also have a senior to senior adoption process, call for information on it.
The city license is required for all dogs and cats within the city limits and a current rabies vaccine is required to purchase the license.

More about this shelter

We have a lot of success stories because of the great staff and wonderful volunteers. We have foster families that take in young or injured pets. The staff and volunteers work hard to maintain a safe and healthy place for our pets, and we have several offsite adoption events each month. We offer microchip services. Every animal deserves a great home and we work hard to see that they get one. We always need more volunteers, foster families and donations.
