My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for that special couch potato doggo who just wants to Netflix and chill with you? A low-maintenance snuggle bug ready to welcome you home to unwind after a long day? Star is your gal! She's an intelligent, amber-eyed beauty who is also a giant loaf. She was found abandoned at a gas station in central Texas - but no fear, she found the good indoor life! She'll warm your heart with her big smile, friendly and laid-back nature, and white star-shaped blaze along her forehead! She is a fast learner and has mastered major commands - sit, go to crate, go potty, go to the car, gentle treats, four paws and gentle walking. According to her foster, she's the "easiest foster dog I've ever had!". She loves adults, treats & chews, booty scritches, playing fetch or tug-o-war, laying on the couch (only with permission), sunbathing, the outdoors and allll car rides. Star is house and crate trained (including potty on command) and sleeps quietly all night. Star is a little THICC at 80lbs but is on a managed diet, targeting closer to 65-70#. Maybe you can both hit that 10,000 step goal together! She is heartworm negative, spayed and UTD on vaccines. She hasn’t had much interaction with cats but isn’t that interested in them on walks or at events. Star will thrive as the only pet in your home and is best with older kids (15yo+), although she loves those gentler supervised pets and snuggles from littles.

More about this rescue

Animal Justice League (AJL) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt dog and cat rescue organization with a focus on the Oak Forest and Garden Oaks neighborhoods of Houston, TX. AJL was formed on January 27, 2015, but really, the work began long before then!

In a neighborhood that often serves as a dumping ground for unwanted animals, in a city that is overridden with homeless pets, and shelters that are at capacity, we saw a need and knew it was time to make a difference.

We rescue dogs off of the brutal streets of Houston, help care for those that are no longer wanted or cared for by their previous owners, and are registered to pull dogs and cats from the city, county, and nearby shelters. We also help reduce the community cat and kitten population through a robust TNR (trap, neuter, return) program.

Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through rescue, education, and outreach. Help us make our mission a reality!
