Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be reviewed and/or contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. Mileage requirements may be lifted for Cavalier or DCM experienced homes.

Lizzie came from a past life of breeding. Thankfully, she is a love bug and is not timid like most are. At Lizzie's vet intake appointment, the vet heard a heart murmur. Because of this, we got her seen with the cardiology team at U of I. She was diagnosed with Nutritional Secondary Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). DCM is not common for the cavalier breed. Her valves look good & there is trivial evidence of tricuspid regurgitation. The concern is with some enlargement, we have started her on a high-quality diet that could slow/reverse this condition. Lizzie will need to be seen by a licensed cardiologist in November for a recheck echocardiogram and follow the cardologist recommendation going forward for rechecks. She has also started Pimobendan which she may or may not need to remain on this medication long term. Your local vet is not the same as a cardiologist and they cannot perform these tests. If you don't already have a cardiologist, do the research to see where the closest one is to you and ensure you can make the drive should they be far away. You will be required to provide us the name of the cardiologist you would use when you apply.

When Lizzy came into rescue, she needed a dental. She only had 13 teeth that needed to be cleaned but unfortunately, they were bad and all had to be pulled. Good news, Lizzy is in no more mouth pain and you will not need to pay for any more dentals.

Lizzie is okay with a leash. She does better at her potty duties if she has a secure area to go in. For this reason, we would discuss a small designated physically secure area, as Lizzie isn't really fond of playing outside. She doesn't need a fenced yard, but she does need some security. Remember how little she is, and NEVER should she be left alone outside.

Lizzie is a stage 5 clinger, she will glue herself to you, or any human, who will pick her up. Her number one goal all day long is to be touching a human. Being held by a human, laying next to a human, sitting with a human, staring at a human.....lol. You get the idea.

Lizzie is an excellent car rider. She is just happy to be part of the festivities. Lizzie is just so thankful to have a chance at her own family. She is an absolute gem that doesn't get into any trouble, loves everyone she meets, and just wants love!

Please let us know if you have the perfect home to offer Lizzie by sending us an email. Gateway4paws@gmail.com
