My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! I’m Demi, a three-year-old, 65-pound female yellow lab mix, and I'm on the lookout for my forever home. I was rescued just in the nick of time and now I’m staying at a foster home in Battle Creek, Michigan. I've been through a lot of changes lately, so I was a bit shy at first, but I’m starting to feel more comfortable and my gentle, loving nature is coming out.

Let me tell you a bit about myself! I’m really good on a leash and I’m learning new commands every day. Car rides are one of my favorite things, and I always behave politely—I don’t chew on things I shouldn’t. I love playing tag, and I’m fully housebroken and crate-trained, though I don’t need to be crated. I was a little scared of the cats at first, but I’m getting used to them now.

I dream of a home with a fully FENCED-IN YARD where I can run and play freely. I’d love to have a playful, confident dog buddy to help me build my confidence and show me the ropes. I’m fully vetted and ready to be your loyal companion for an adoption fee of $300.

If you think we could be a perfect match or have questions, please email us at projecthoperescue@gmail.com to request an adoption application. I can’t wait to meet you and start our new life together!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require that the interested adopter come to meet the dog and then fill out an adoption application. We will review the application and then pass on to the dog's foster family (if applicable). We then contact the potential adopter's vet and we will also do a home visit. If all goes well, the adopter signs our adoption contract stating that, among other things, the dog will receive regular vet care and must be returned to us if things do not work out.

More about this rescue

We focus primarily on rescuing senior and special needs dogs in kill facilities. We are located on 30 acres of land in rural southern Michigan. We are a care-for-life facility, so any dog that does not or that we deem cannot be adopted will live with us for the rest of his/her life. Because we rescue the dogs that are not in high demand, it normally takes our dogs longer to find that perfect family. We believe that it takes a special family to adopt our special dogs.
