My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

(05/21/2022) Penelope, or as her foster mom lovingly calls her, the “Little Pink Pig” is as cute as they come! Penelope may be a bit of a lap dog, despite her 50-pound frame! She loves cuddling up on your lap, chest, or even your shoulder as if she thinks she is a little parrot. And when she’s feeling extra silly, expect a few sweet licks and wet-willies! Her unique markings give her what almost looks like a crooked little heart shaped nose! Her short hair means you can see her pink skin underneath, especially on her cute belly! She also has the most fabulous white eyelashes!

Penelope is a confident, loving girl who is all about being the center of attention and would thrive in a home where she’s the only pet. She loves getting all of the attention and will wedge her way through her other foster siblings to get closest to her foster mom for more love and pats. If there are other other dogs in her forever home, her family will need to understand she’s the queen of the castle. She’s a strong and independent lady who requires slow introductions to new furry friends as well as proper and monitered play time because she can get a little too rough.

She’s ready to give you endless love and loyalty for many years to come. Penelope has a loving, protective side and adores her people. She will have a strong bond with her family.

Other noteworthy and great things about Penelope; she is house trained and crate trained. She also enjoys car rides but may try and share the front seat with you if she isn't securely fastened in her seat. Wherever you take her, she is bound to get attention from friends and strangers alike! She just has the face and the smile that radiates joy and people are naturally attraacted to her. She loves everyone she meets and is happy to get a little bit more love and affection! Penelope does love going on walks but needs more leash practice because she is strong and can pull, so hold on tight and be prepared to work with her on

A family with kids who want a snuggle bug and a little playmate would be good as long as the children are older/bigger just because Penelope may accidently knock over little ones.

As part of Penelope’s $300 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little girl, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Penelope, you can fill in an online application for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

1. Review the description of the pet you are interested in to make sure that the information we have fits with your particular needs and desires. In most cases, the information on the website is current and gives the information that we have about the particular pet. The picture of the pet does not tell the whole story.

2. Complete the adoption application at https://pawsforlifenc.org. Please make sure that you give us as much information about yourself as you can. List all animals currently living with you including other dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and rodents. The application needs to be complete in order to help us determine if the pet you have chosen is a good match for your home.

3. Once the application is submitted we will contact you, your references, and your vet.

4. We require a home visit prior to dog adoptions.

5. If more than one person applies, we will go with the BEST fit. If all things are equal, we go in the order the applications were received.

6. Once the home visit has been completed, you will be asked to complete an adoption agreement.

7. The adoption fee is $325 for dogs under 6 months, $300 for 6 months and older. The adoption fee is $125 for kittens under 1 year ($225 for 2 kittens), $85 for cats 1 year and older. This fee helps us to provide the necessary medical care and other needs for the pets while in foster care.

8. All Paws For Life NC pets are spayed or neutered if old enough, current on shots, micro chipped, and to our knowledge, in good health before they are adopted out. Puppies under 6 months of age will require a $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee and a special puppy spay/neuter agreement. Kittens under 6 months will require a $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee. We are all volunteers and receive no monetary compensation for our work with the pets. The adoption fee is used to help defray costs in the rescue and care of the pets.

9. Congratulations! You are on your way to having your new companion. We hope that you and your new companion share a life of love and happiness. We welcome any comments you may wish to give us about your pet at any time.
