My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

From her foster: Some things we learned this week- Shirley is learning a lot from our dogs and would probably love a home with other dogs.

Small fast moving kids seem to make her nervous. We will continue to socialize her and see if she gets better.

She will need a few weeks to adjust. She learned to use potty pads this week and we will move them gradually to the outside to help her understand. We were pretty happy about that win.

We do not crate her. She is a trash hound so we do secure her in a room with one of us at night. It gives us all more peace of mind. We have a crate, but she really loves the freedom of the house. Someone who is not home 24/7 should probably crate her.

She has learned the word no and responds quickly, but she can’t resist counter surfing…. We are working on that too. We lost some counter butter today… from an enclosed butter dish!! She is very clever.

We see more of her personality every day. She is becoming more gregarious everyday and it gives us much joy. She is actively playing with our golden and has even gotten our alpha to play. It has really brightened our lives to see her learn and grow.

At training she learned “focus” very quickly. We expect she will learn more every day!!
She will continue to go to obedience class while in foster and would love a family of her own with another dog and a fenced yard

Shirley is a 2 yr old standard poodle. She was recently rescued from an Amish puppy mill. Shirley is very sweet and gentle. She is great with dogs. Shirley is going to need patience with leash walking and would do best with a fenced yard. Shirley finds safety in her crate. She is working on housebreaking and just learning about life. This 75-pound girl will make a family very happy.

More about this rescue

Passion for Pets Rescue (PPR) is a non-profit (501c3), insured and state licensed rescue, run by volunteers. We are a small group of like minded folks with big hearts. PPR does not have an actual shelter, all of our dogs are either in foster homes in Maine or with our Southern partners in Mississippi.

PPR covers all medical expenses. The majority of the dogs we rescue require immediate veterinary care. Skin infections and internal parasites are common occurrences. We pay for all spay & neuter surgeries. PPR makes sure all dogs are given age appropriate vaccinations, as well as, preventative medication for Heartworm and external parasites.
Please contact us if you would like to help foster, transport, fundraise or volunteer.
