A volunteer spent some time with Horseshoe, and here's what they said: "Horseshoe is such a smart, friendly and well behaved dog. When we walked past the kennels to go outside, he greeted dogs in the kennels even while some barked at him. He knows how to sit when asked and loves treats in return. When I sat he would stand next to me and lean in to give dog hugs. He did his business outside and his kennel is clean, so he may be potty trained.
When we walked inside he listened to me and stayed close as we walked past several people. He showed again how he can sit when asked. He is very curious and looked out the window several times to observe the people outside. He is very handsome and looks like he would be such a loyal, fun member of a loving family. "
On 8/2/24 Horseshoe met another dog, Canela (38129). He was easy to get out of the kennel, but did pull on his leash when walking. Initially he had no reaction to Canela. However, he started to approach her, growling and necking with hackles raised. Canela was timid and submissive.
We allowed them to communicate as much as possible, but did give small corrections to Horseshoe when he got too worked up. He took correction well. Eventually he seemed to calm down and loosen up. Good boy, but needs time to decompress and likely needs some good exercise!
