My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Boba!!
Boba is a handsome 1 year old 10 pound male Havanese. He has soft hair with a curl to it, mostly black, with white and grey markings on his paws and face. His foster mom describes him as Energetic (yes with a capital E!), loveable, and playful. He loves all people, and will give free kisses to anyone who picks him up or sits on the floor with him! Boba would do best with his own yard while he works on perfecting his potty training and he works on his leash skills and manners.

Boba would love to find a family that is home most of the time and maybe another playful young dog around his size to help release his puppy energy… BUT the other dog needs to be ok with noisy aggressively fun play. Boba is a growler during play, but not in a meanie way. His play partner will have to understand his personality and not be annoyed if Boba bumps them or playfully grabs their tail to get them to play with him. If he doesn’t have another dog to play with that appreciates his enthusiasm for play he also likes to fetch, and he is still working on the *returning* the ball part. He does take them to his bed, so his foster mom just brings his bed to her and he comes back to the bed (and her) with the ball. He also enjoys chewing on loofa chew toys or bully sticks. He also chases his own tail which is definitely entertaining and super cute. He is a young boy and needs an energy release. If you spend a lot of time away from home, Boba is not your guy.

Boba’s play style may scare most cats, but if your cat is chill (no really… they would have to literally not care about his funny growly play, and ignore him if he dare to “ask” a cat to play) who knows. Boba is good with kids, likely best with kids 6 and over. He is mouthy (gentle!) but not a biter.
Boba is good in the car, he sits on the passenger’s seat with a blanket, harness and seat belt. He is also good in his crate at home when left alone for 2-3 hours, or in his X-pen. Boba was even ok with fireworks. He did shake a little bit, but he didn’t cry or bark, his foster mom stayed with him to reassure him it was ok.

He is 90% potty trained, his foster mom is a potty training expert, and he has rang the bell to go out 3 times so far! He sleeps in a pen at night without whining. Boba will need to work on his leash manners on walks, at this time his foster family wear him out by playing fetch with him in the yard and house. He is food motivated, so treats will help him with his training.

Boba would do best in a home with another playful dog his size that will be ok with his play style and a house with a yard to potty and exercise and play. Boba would not be good in an apartment as he does appropriately bark, he is not a silent dog.

Boba will need brushing if you choose to keep his hair longer. When he arrived to us he was matted tightly from head to toe. We need to be clear that this is not how he wants to live. He has hair, it will grow and need to be cut. He has a very cute cut right now, it had to be cut short due to the mattes he came with. His hair does not appear to grow very fast, so it seems he may only need a haircut every 8 weeks or so to keep it short. Please consider this expense when considering adding this good boy to your family. He didn’t deserve to be in pain with those mattes.

Boba is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all shots. He is fostered in HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA
