Meet Milo – A 1-Year-Old Lab Mix Ready for a Second Chance
Milo is a big, loving guy with a heart full of potential—but he needs the right person to help him become the well-mannered companion we know he can be. At just one year old, Milo came to us as a stray in July, and since then, he’s shown us that he’s not just a dog; he’s a work in progress. This energetic, smart Lab mix is looking for a dedicated adopter who is ready to give him the time, structure, and training he needs to thrive.
Milo is an incredibly friendly dog, but his early life lacked the basic training and boundaries that every dog needs. As a result, he can be a bit overwhelming at times, especially when he gets excited. He loves people and wants to be involved in everything, but he can struggle with jumping, mouthing, and respecting personal space. He’s also very energetic and needs a home where he can get plenty of physical and mental stimulation.
Training Needs & Requirements:
Milo is a smart dog, and with the right training, he has the potential to be an amazing companion. However, he is not a `turnkey` dog, and he will require an experienced, patient adopter who understands that his behavioral challenges are not insurmountable—just a bit of a project! Here`s what you need to know about Milo’s training and behavior needs:
- **High Energy & Enrichment:** Milo is full of energy and needs a home where he can burn off that excess drive. Regular exercise is a must—long walks, runs, playtime, and puzzle toys will keep his mind and body engaged. Without enough stimulation, he can become frustrated and engage in unwanted behaviors.
- **Behavioral Training:** Milo will need consistent, positive reinforcement training to help him learn proper manners and socialization skills. He has a tendency to jump, mouth, and get overly excited in certain situations, so he will need help learning impulse control. With time, patience, and dedication, he can learn basic obedience commands (sit, stay, down, etc.) and proper greetings without getting too excited. He’s a quick learner, so once he understands what’s expected of him, he will thrive.
- **Personal Space & Boundaries:** Milo has not yet learned the importance of respecting personal space. He can be overwhelming with his enthusiasm, and it’s important that his adopters provide clear boundaries and be firm when needed. Teaching him how to interact calmly and appropriately will be key to his success.

We require potential adopters to fill out an pre-adoption application. If that application is approved, the dog/cat must be spayed/neutered before it leaves our shelter (if not already done). If it is a puppy under 4 months old, we allow it to go home with the adopters under a foster care agreement until it is old enough to be returned for spay/neuter. Kittens are allowed to leave before spay/neuter is done, but they must be done within a certain time frame.
Fees: Dogs/puppies range from $150-300, depending on if they came in already spayed/neutered or if we paid to have that done.
Cats range from $80 - $140, though we often have deals on older cats or cats that have been there a long time.
Kittens are $60 with $25 refunded once it has been spayed/neutered.
All adoptions include at least the first vaccination, deworming, de-fleaing, microchip ID, and 6 weeks of pet insurance.
