My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** Philadoptables is generously donating $300 to the rescue that pulls **
** $430 in pledges to the rescue that pulls **

Jewel ACCT-A-169075 is a 3-year-old female who came in as an owner surrender on 7/14.

Medical notes:

During a followup exam on 7/18, staff noted:

-Serous nasal discharge
-Circular partial thickness burn (tentative) surrounded by a large area of moist dermatitis on right lateral hip. At least 9 other small circular actively blistering burns also identified on trunk and flanks.
-Abdomen - very tense, unable to adequately palpate
-Well developed mammary and vulva

On 7/18, Jewel was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection.

During an intake exam on 7/14, staff found Jewel in good general health besides a "festering wound on her right hind leg. She was noted to be QAR, friendly but shy.

Behavior notes:

Per volunteer on 8/8: Jewel is a lot of fun to spend time with. Jewel hadn't been outside with a volunteer in 5 days and she was delighted to see me. She bounced around the parking lot with an enthusiastic tail wag. Once at the street Jewel did enjoy running with me to the cemetery. We sat together under a tree and Jewel did her best to squeeze onto my lap for pets. A lap is her only requirement. Her ears are amazing and so expressive! Jewel is very petite and a little lady. She politely ignored all of the barking dogs once we returned to ACCT.

7/28 per foster, Jewel left with a foster for a few days who noted Jewel was an absolute sweetheart and has been a great cuddle buddy, however was barking when left alone and the fosters neighbors complained so she ultimately was returned.

A behavioral assessment on 7/16 resulted in the following observations:

KNOWN HISTORY:
Per owner did great with kids!

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Jewel was in the welcome center. She was a bit nervous. When she saw the handler she had wide soft eyes and seemed nervous but came to the front with low wags. She cowered for leashing and lowered her body, but allowed it. Exited and retired easily.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally, housebroken

HANDLING:
We went to the play yard, as the eval room was in use and kept time outside brief due to heat. In the yard Jewel had soft eyes and walked around exploring with soft eyes. She was timid outside but friendly with both of us. She was tolerant of all handling outside and would lean in slightly, but was fairly independent outside. No interest in treats.

PLAY:
No interest

TOYS:
Perked but would not engage

Per her owner's surrender notes on 7/14, Jewel was described as follows:

-"Loving, "great with kids and adults
-Lived with two adults and four kids (16, 14, 12, 9)
-Housetrained
-Crate trained
-Medium energy
-Has never bitten a person or animal
-"Good on leash
-"Perfect around strangers, "focused on cats
