Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pistachio arrived with Kitty A909381 (a male dog). They each had been heavily stickered in porcupine needles and patiently waited for while they were all removed! Oh what an endeavor and an adventure not to be repeated for sure. Pistachio walks so nicely on leash but it`s clear he probably would rather just follow his person. Pistachio has recently spent time in a foster home and is described as being perfect for someone who wants companionship without hassles. They can`t believe how easy he is! He`s houstrained, rarely barks, spends a good part of his day napping and is a charmer! He likes to quietly stay near his person. For a little entertainment, toss him some treats, he`ll catch them midair! You`re going to fall in love. Also check out his friend Kitty!

He`s advocated for by his fosters, friends and ClassicCaninesATX who help build bridges home for mature dogs that have been displaced from their homes and need a fresh start in life.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
