Penny Layne is a typical English Bulldog, with a heart as big as her smile. She is a delight to be around but she also has the stubborn streak that we all know and love. Penny Layne was extremely overweight when she was first surrendered to C2CND but with the help of a strict diet and some light exercise we were able to help her lose about 10 pounds and now she is ready for her forever home!
Penny Layne is the epitome of a loving couch potato. She adores snuggling up next to humans and will nudge your hand with her paw to remind you that pets are always appreciated. While she enjoys lounging, she also loves short walks and playful games of fetch at the park. Due to her breed's distinctive facial folds, she needs to stay cool and avoid long exposure to heat. She also requires a fence at least 4 foot fence, even though she is short, she can get some height on her jumps.
Our sweet girl gets along with most dogs but she doesn't like anyone in her face even if she initiates the face interaction. She will quickly let her K9 pals know they are invading her personal space and they need to back up. All of the dogs she has interacted with have immediately taken her ques so we have not had any altercations but if you have a dog that does not take social ques very well - this will not be a good match. Due to thi we would recommend no children under 12. She has shown curiosity about cats but is respectful of their space. Penny Layne walks well on a leash but can be a bit stubborn and easily startled by loud noises like thunder and fireworks. When outdoors, she tends to run from sudden loud sounds, so a secure harness is essential for her safety.
Penny Layne is food motivated and enjoys training, though she can be a bit of a scavenger if food is left unattended. She is not a free feeder and she should not be fed around others. She needs to be fed in her crate because food is life to her. Penny Layne doesn't share food! She is house trained and communicates her needs with a gentle grumble. She enjoys her crate and will often retreat there on her own, although she hasn’t been crated for extended periods yet. Her love for toys is evident, but she needs durable ones due to her tendency to shred and swallow fabric.
With her endearing personality and loving nature, Penny Layne is looking for a home where she can continue to thrive and be showered with affection. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who loves to cuddle and enjoys a good nap, Penny Layne is perfect for you!
***Since coming to C2CND Penny Layne has been under the care of a dermatologist. She is on a special diet to help with allergies. She needs to continue the diet, which can include carrots and green beans as treats, to maintain her weight. Additionally, as is typical with English Bulldogs, Penny Layne requires frequent cleaning of her ears and facial folds with ear drops and medicated wipes to avoid infection. **
