Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
My name is Cole and I came in as a stray from Biloxi in the beginning of August last year. I had hoped my owner would come and take me back home, but no one ever came. I am a good boy! I am good with dog friends, I am friendly to all people, I will sit for a treat, and I walk well on a leash. Wait until you see me with a rope toy! Those are my FAVORITE. We can play tug all day if you want to. I`m still a young guy so I am active and I will need a way to exercise.
I am amazing, right? But here`s the situation - I am a year and a half old and I have spent SIX MONTHS of that time in the shelter. People keep adopting my friends from the left and right of me but they never give me a chance. My shelter friends give me all the toys, peanut butter, and attention they can, but it`s not the same as having a family of my own.
I have been hanging in there as best I can, but if I am being honest I`m starting to feel a little sad being here day after day after day. Would YOU be willing to give me a chance? Would you be the person that sees I`m the right dog for you? I`m here patiently waiting but I don`t want to wait long!
Don`t scroll!! Please let me tell you my story.

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
