My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hazel the Hilarious: Your New Favorite Couch Comedian

Meet Hazel, the plus-sized French Bulldog with a heart as big as her personality! At just 2 years young and tipping the scales at 28 pounds, Hazel’s got the charisma of a stand-up comedian and the snuggle skills of a pro. Left behind in a divorce, Hazel could have let life get her down—but instead, she’s decided to focus on what really matters: finding her forever family and keeping them laughing along the way!

The Comedy Show:
Hazel’s got a few routines that never fail to get a laugh. For starters, walking? Not her thing. Hazel believes walks are optional, and she’d much rather roll in style—in a stroller, thank you very much. She’s also not a fan of doing her business on a leash, which is why she’ll thrive in a home with even a small yard or patio where she can handle her business like the diva she is. She is housebroken with with the help of a yard. When she’s not lounging in her favorite spots, Hazel can spend all day playing fetch with her beloved toys—because clearly, running after a toy is *not* the same as taking a walk!

All About Hazel:
Hazel’s fan club includes humans of all ages, other dogs, and an ever-growing collection of plush toys she treats like family. She’s a champion at relaxation, toggling between “Zoomies Mode” and “Couch Potato Extraordinaire.” Whether she’s bursting with playful energy or snoozing by your side, Hazel makes every moment better.

She’s got her manners locked down—housebroken, rarely barks, and an expert at making morning head scratches feel like the best part of your day. Trust us, her morning routine will rival your cup of coffee!

What Hazel Needs:
Hazel’s dream home includes:
- An experienced Frenchie fan who understands her diva-level skincare needs (a limited ingredient diet does wonders for her skin!).
- A small yard or patio for her potty breaks—apartment life isn’t her vibe.
- A home where she can be the only dog or have a young, laid-back male buddy to play with (senior dogs aren’t her speed).
- Someone who appreciates her unique blend of sass, sweetness, and stroller-bound strolls.

Hazel’s low-maintenance personality pairs perfectly with her high-maintenance beauty regimen. She’s cool with short walks in mild weather but thrives when she gets her zoomies time and fetch marathons.

French Bulldogs: Know Before You Adopt
French Bulldogs, like Hazel, often require more frequent veterinary care compared to other breeds. They can be prone to allergies, skin issues, and other health concerns, which may lead to higher-than-average medical expenses. Potential adopters should be prepared for the financial responsibility that comes with owning this lovable but sometimes high-maintenance breed.

Why Hazel?
If you’re looking for a loyal lap-warmer who doubles as a comedic genius, Hazel is ready to bring the laughs and love to your life. With her big heart, larger-than-life personality, and endless charm, Hazel is a star waiting to shine in her forever home.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

1) View pets online

2) Submit application for the pet of your choice. FYI: The application process is not meant to be an invasion of privacy but a tool to help us find out if one of our pets would fit happily into your home and lifestyle. We spend a lot of time and funds to get to know our dogs and cats and your application helps set both you and them up for a successful adoption. CLICK HERE FOR APPLICATION.

3) Meet the dog or cat: By appointment only. If your application is approved, you will be contacted to arrange to meet the pet at a convenient time. We ask that everyone who will be living with the pet attend the meeting. Also, if you have an existing dog, for a dog we might ask that you bring him/her along for an introduction.

4) Home check: While a home visit is required prior to final placement, it does not guarantee adoption. We like to see where our pets will be living to make sure that they will be in a safe and secure environment. Often we can help with unforeseen health risks and help secure yards and fences that first time owners might miss.

5) Adoption contract: The adoption contract is a binding agreement between the adopter and our rescue group. If, for any reason, the adoption of one of our pets DOES NOT work out, you MUST return the animal to The Rescue Train. We are always here for our animals, no matter what.

6) Tax deductible donation. There is a minimum tax deductible donation of $250 per dog and $125 per cat. Each pet is spayed/neutered, vaccinated*, and microchipped. In most cases, we have already spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, on vet bills, boarding and training for each pet. The donation helps us recoup a small fraction of that cost.

*In the case of puppies and kittens, additional rounds of shots might be required.

Many dogs that come to us need training. We are one of the few groups that obedience train the majority of our rescue dogs. Our intensive training program would cost the average pet owner hundreds of dollars. Part of our $250 dog adoption agreement, for dogs who require training, is that their adoptive parents have a mandatory free private training session before the dog can go home.

7) Delivery of your new family member: We come with education and helpful hints to help things go smoothly and take the guess work out of what to expect when bringing your new pet home. Each pet has a team of people behind him/her and we are here to be a support system if you should need us.
