Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Pooh Bear's journey hasn’t been an easy one, but this brave and beautiful boy is proof that second chances can lead to wonderful transformations. Found as a stray, it took days of patience to bring him to safety. Now, he’s ready to find a forever home with someone who will give him the love and understanding he deserves.
Pooh Bear is deaf, but don’t let that fool you—he’s incredibly smart and eager to learn. Thanks to his ongoing START training classes at the Dayton Dog Training Club, he’s already mastered skills like “Wait,” “Sit,” “Down,” “Heel,” and more! He loves exploring the yard, going on walks, and playing with toys, showing his sweet and playful side every chance he gets.
What Pooh Bear needs most is a kind, understanding, and patient adopter who will continue his training and help him build trust and confidence in people. With the right person, Pooh Bear will thrive and become the loyal, loving companion he’s meant to be.
If you're looking for a large, lovable friend, Pooh Bear is your guy! Are you ready to be the hero in Pooh Bear’s story? Fill out an application on our website or stop by the shelter to meet Pooh Bear in person. He's excited to find his forever home!

More about this shelter
The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is proud to be a no-kill animal welfare agency. We are committed to finding great homes for great pets! As a 501(c)(3) nonproft, we receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from individuals, companies and grants to fund our programs and services. We are not affiliated with any other animal agency on a local, state or national level. Since 1902, our organization has been devoted to being a voice for the voiceless. Although we proudly find more than 2,000 animals forever homes every year, we are far more than an adoption center. We currently have a wide array of programs to support animals in our community. Through our high-volume spay and neuter clinic, we are able to help pet owners as well as battle cat overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Return. Our humane society agents also work tirelessly to protect pets from cruel and neglectful circumstances through our Cruelty & Neglect Investigations Department. Through our Veterinary Hospital, we can provide top-quality access to veterinary care at a low cost to pet owners. In addition to our many programs, our organization is unique because we are the only agency in the community able to handle all types of animals. This includes cats and dogs but also rabbits, birds, farm animals, pocket pets and exotics. Our organization is committed to providing our community, our state and our region with support and care.
