My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Selena is the perfect snuggle bug who just wants a forever lap to snuggle up in! She has the sweetest personality and is so eager to please and show her humans all the love! She is one of our popular “S” litter. Selena and her siblings were saved from a situation where they were in danger of being killed. If you’re ready to add a fun loving girl to your home, Selena says “Fill out an application for me”!

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process is fairly simple as long as apps are filled out correctly and fully and all checks out. We do screen with a background check program and call vet references and personal references. If any of this is left blank we cannot and will not process applications. Meet and greets are set up after an applicant is approved if the animal of interest is being fostered in applicants immediate area. If out of the applicants immediate area we hold two pickups per month every other weekend where adopters and fosters meet us at PetSmart in Hoffman Estates to pick up their foster or adopted animal.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

A) The process of meeting an animal of interest depends on its location. Once your application is approved, we can arrange a meet and greet, provided the animal is in foster care in your immediate location. If the animal is out of the applicants immediate area, they are available for our scheduled pickups where you have the option to place a reservation deposit to secure the animal for adoption or sign up for a foster commitment by placing a refundable good faith foster deposit, as outlined in the "Deposit" section. If the animal is in your immediate location but you are unable to meet for several days, you may place a security or reservation deposit to hold the animal. 👉When reserving, once you receive an official adoption approval from Tails, you do not need to wait to speak with us to reserve the animal for adoption if reserved within 4 hours. You may reserve immediately after signing this form, noting the animal in your notes with your deposit, and emailing us to confirm. We will then mark the animal as adopted and no longer available. In cases where multiple applications are approved for the same animal, each applicant has 4 hours after receiving the approval email to contact us and reserve the animal. Approved adopters or fosters are sent a courtesy text after each email to ensure the applicant is notified. The first applicant to reserve the animal, adopts. If it has been more than 4 hours since receiving your approval, please contact us first to confirm the animal's availability. We cannot guarantee the animal's availability without a deposit. Anyone with an adoption approval can reserve an animal at any time. It is strongly recommended that you reserve the animal immediately if you are certain about adopting. Otherwise, we will contact you to follow up. If the animal is available for adoption or foster commitment for our pickup date, we will inform you of the pickup date, which typically occurs twice per month and held at PetSmart in Hoffman Estates. Please refer to the "Pickup Information" section at the bottom of this document for further details. If waiting we cannot assure you the animal of interest will still be available as we do not and can not do holds without a deposit. *Please note we are very hands on with our dogs. It is imperative for success, that one adopts from an org that is very hands on, knows their dogs very well. For those who are well-informed and educated on canine behavior, it is common knowledge that canines require time to establish bonds and become comfortable in a new environment to where they feel confident enough to be themselves, fully. An adult dog typically takes three months to fully relax and form a bond with a family in a new home, at which point their true personality becomes apparent. For those who are unfamiliar, researching the 333 dog rule provides valuable insight into canine behavior and the time frame necessary for adjustment, ultimately revealing their authentic personality. This is why it is crucial to adopt from an organization that has an in-depth understanding of their dogs. Our expertise lies in placing dogs in environments that we know will be suitable for them by knowing our dogs very well, how they are with all other dogs, children cats etc. While in-person meetings, meet and greets can be enjoyable, they are not indicative of a dog's personality or their compatibility with other dogs. Dogs in unfamiliar environments, surrounded by strangers etc, are naturally nervous and cautious, responding in various ways, but it is for certain that they are not their authentic selves. Puppies, on the other hand, adapt quickly to new homes and people, normally within one to three days. Similar to human children between the ages of one and three, puppies at very young ages have not yet developed distinct personalities or characteristics, they all act very similar making them easy to integrate into homes. This is the ideal time for training and molding them into the desired behaviors one wishes to obtain. At young ages, all puppies exhibit similar traits. Young puppies rapidly form bonds with people, much like human children do with proper care and kindness. Since they are incapable of causing harm, the primary concern when adopting a young puppy is ensuring that the adult dogs in the home are compatible with young puppies, preventing potential harm or danger to the puppy. Additionally, if there are young children in the home, it is essential to teach them how to handle young puppies gently and safely, supervising interactions until the child understands how to interact with them appropriately. Placing animals in appropriate homes is our expertise, we work for them and go above and beyond. :)

More about this rescue

Tails is a jack of all trades within the animal welfare community, we do it all. Rescue, rehab, medical, facilitate adoptions, have a sanctuary for hospice and seniors as well as sanctuary for troubled dogs. The dogs society has given up on, misunderstood. We are a legitimate NO KILL, full care organization. We specialize in medical animals, neglected animals, dogs labeled as non adoptable, those who need us the most. When you adopt from Tails you are absolutely, for certain "rescuing" saving a life that would not have stood a chance without us, without YOU as when you adopt you not only help one life, but you make room for another, give the gift of life to another innocent soul waiting desperately to come in, for help. We have 28 years experience working in rescue/animal welfare. Our sanctuary is in Arkansas. Our adoption and foster program is in Illinois, where we do business. We exclusively adopt out dogs here in Illinois however we will facilitate out of state adoptions but applicants must meet us in our "working area" to pick up their foster or adopted animal. This is held at PetSmart in Hoffman Estates. These are scheduled events. With an approved foster application, we allow fostering anywhere in Illinois as well as Arkansas when our facility is full as long as one is able to meet us when needed so we may pick up our animals for their scheduled pickups. We are 100% foster dependent here in Illinois. We maintain our license in both states. We have two scheduled pickups per month, every other week at Pet Smart in Hoffman Estates. Occasionally we meet in another area nearby in Hoffman Estates but this info will be provided if this is changed. This is where our fosters and adopters meet us to pick up their fur kiddo. For those being fostered here in our direct "working" area, we have public events every other Saturday, at Pet Supply Plus in Lake In The Hills.
