Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dylan von Dohren is a gorgeous 9-10 month old German Shepherd mix. This adorable guy loves everyone, and everyone loves him! With a friendly, go-with-the-flow personality, we think Dylan would do well in many situations, including a family with kids or a multi-dog home. "Wonderful and very gentle" with a toddler in a foster home, he was described as "calm and relaxed." Not only that, this boy is housebroken and crate-trained and easy to walk on leash. He did great at a busy public event, and was a kid magnet. He is so sweet, he adores attention and pets and will reward you with endless kisses -- and we do mean endless. He's smart too, and knows his basic commands. And, he does wonderfully with other dogs, on and off-leash, sharing space nicely with others at the rescue, and playing some. (But he's a no for cats.) If you are looking for a charming and easygoing pup, Dylan is waiting to meet you!
Rescued from the SEACCA animal shelter.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
