My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Brooke!

***Brooke is bonded to Mavis***

Six months. That’s how long Brooke and Mavis have waited, side by side, for someone to give them the forever home they deserve. They came to us together, both very pregnant, and within days, they each brought a litter of beautiful puppies into the world. As mothers, they were tender and devoted, ensuring their pups grew strong and healthy.
Now, their puppies have all found loving homes, but Brooke and Mavis remain—waiting, hoping, and deserving of love just as much. This bonded mother-daughter duo has an unshakable connection. Brooke, the younger of the two, is a gentle soul and a great listener. Mavis, her calm and affectionate mother, is equally sweet and attentive. Together, they form a perfect pair—one that thrives in each other’s company and will bring so much warmth and joy to the lucky family who takes them in.
Adopting a pair of larger dogs isn’t always easy, but it’s so worth it. Brooke and Mavis have weathered life’s storms together, and separating them would break their hearts. They are ready to settle into a home where they can share their love and loyalty with the people who choose them.
Please, help us find these girls the home they’ve been waiting for. Share their story, spread the word, and if you have room in your heart and home for two incredible dogs, come meet Brooke and Mavis. They’ve waited long enough.

Brooke came to our shelter very pregnant along with her bff Mavis. Within a few days, she gave birth to a litter of beautiful puppies. Brooke did her job as a mother with tenderness and attentiveness. Now, she is looking for some attention herself. Brooke is a sweet girl and a good listener. If you are looking for a beautiful girl to have at your side, look no further. She is very attached to her friend Mavis and does need to find a home alongside her.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
