My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chibi
My roots and life skills were forged as a young stray cat. When I was two years old I had never lived with humans until I was found by a family and brought inside to live. I spent one year with them; now I am 3-years-old. There were two children and two cats already living there. Being an orphaned cat, I had never lived indoors and had no idea how to be a pet. I spent most of my time hiding and avoiding running into the 2 and the 4- legged creatures. I also had to share two litterboxes with the other cats. It was unbearable. So, in early August, I found myself at the HSHC. The medical staff found I had urinary tract crystals, which are extremely painful. I now eat a diet designed to avoid those ouchy crystals from forming. Even with the change in diet and the loving care I was given at the HSHC, I was still very uncomfortable and had limited social skills. So, I moved into a foster home. My foster family has been very patient with me, and though I still prefer to hide in my kitty bed or under blankets, I have made significant progress! I have learned I can enjoy being petted by my foster`s hands. It is now not as scary to eat in front of them. I still don`t come out if they are both in the room, but when they are gone, I have a blast playing with toys, as evidenced by the several toys I have de-feathered! They`ve heard me chirping out the window while bird-watching. I continue to have perfect litter box habits and am a champion eater. Finally, my fosters realized that I am not a fan of the dark. If they turn my lamp off at night, I will wail at my bedroom door until they turn it back on. Then I`ll go night-night! The HSHC staff feels I would benefit from regular, interactive play sessions with toys and a small space of my own. If I feel overwhelmed, I can simply retreat to my private place. I may always be timid, but I will be a successful pet cat. 1-9-25

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
