My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Declan, a hopelessly handsome and affectionate 2-year old, 65-pound Pit Bull Terrier mix. Between his brindle coat, big brown eyes, and wrinkly forehead, Declan turns heads wherever he goes. And he totally KNOWS it! ;-)

Declan is housebroken, he enjoys being outside, and he loves going for walks. He likes meeting new people and dogs out on the street, and his tag is always wagging with enthusiasm. Declan tends to pull when he notices a squirrel or a cat, but he has been hard at work perfecting his leash skills. He responds well to clicker training and he definitely pays closer attention whenever a treat is involved.

At home, Declan is equal parts playful and chill. When he’s in a spunky mood, Declan will play with his toys or some other object he finds to be of interest. He can become a bit mouthy at times, but it’s likely due to Declan still being a rambunctious youngster and never having been properly trained. Declan is just now learning key obedience phrases, such as drop it, which comes in handy whenever he gets overly attached to something. He is also beginning to respond to the commands sit, come, stay, no, leave it. One thing’s for sure - Declan knows his name and when you say it, he looks straight at you with those adoring gentle eyes!

During Declan’s chill time, this hunky monkey will happily snuggle up on the couch while you work or watch TV. He loves pets and scratches and will burrow into you if you crouch down with open arms. He might even try to nap in your lap if you let him! Yep, a 65-pound lap dog! Awww, how sweet!

While Declan exhibits certain fears, like being afraid of the bath and not liking loud noises, he is showing signs of improvement every single day. Declan wants to do right and make you proud. This king-size kiddo is a good eater, he’s treat motivated, and you can take his food/food bowl away without incident. What’s more, Declan is a great sleeper, snoozing peacefully through the night, until you wake him up the next morning. And the minute he opens up his eyes and gazes at you, he’s completely happy and relaxed. Ahhhh, the wonders of getting enough beauty rest!

Declan would do best in a home with someone willing to work with him so he can continue to grow, learn, and mature…and ultimately become the doggone best boy he was always meant to be.

More about this rescue

PupStarz Rescue is an animal welfare group committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs and cats in public shelters at high risk of euthanasia, as well as those in danger of abuse. We are committed to rescuing as many animals as possible, saving over 2,600 dogs and cats since 2015.

PupStarz Rescue is a foster-based rescue, relying on fosters to open their homes and lives to our Animals. Animals in our care receive proper medical care, including alteration, vaccinations, and microchipping.

Following a thorough screening, our animals are placed in loving, responsible, committed forever homes. PupStarz Rescue ensures that adoptions are an appropriate match for both the animal and their new family by educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a furry companion into their lives.

We are committed to the welfare of our "Starz" beyond the adoption process. We maintain open communication with our adopters to ensure a smooth transition, and offer additional support such as positive training techniques.

Founded in 2015, PupStarz Rescue is a non-profit, 501(c)3, no-kill, animal rescue organization.
