My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rookie is almost a year old Pyrador!!! He looks like a Lab, but he has single dew claws on each back leg so there are Great Pyrenees in his DNA somewhere, so we are going with that! Rookie is estimated to be around 60 lbs when full grown. He is in a foster home and she says:

"Rookie was my foster puppy this past summer. Two months ago, he was adopted only to be returned last week due to being too much of a puppy for the elderly Shih Tzus in the house. Rookie is a leggy, Lab mix puppy, approximately 6-7 months old who loves to play with and hang out other dogs and people and just in general enjoy life to the fullest. He is really enjoying playing with my other foster dogs, Arnold, Myka and Lizzie."

Since he's been back and in a new foster home, he is really coming out of his shell. Can’t believe this bestest boy hasn’t been adopted yet. He even does well with cats! I think Coco our cat deserves a medal for training the revolving door of fosters that we put in her path. He THINKS he has kung fu fighting skills and shows off his wresting style whenever he can (see photo of him with Carson). Rookie is literally unable to show people and other dogs enough of the love he feels for them. Never a dull moment or never a smile on your face when you are with this dude.

This boy loves people, but can be shy at first. He is submissive to adult dogs, but once a friendship is started, Rookie is a wonderful doggie playmate, as he is hanging out with GRRAND dog Carson right now, and they LOVE to play!!! Rookie is very food motivated and will be easy to train and he automatically sits when his food bowl is offered. As far as housebreaking is concerned, Rookie has not had a single accident in his foster home which is awesome for a four month old puppy. Rookie has it all. He is an adorable, playful puppy, full of love and motivated to be a well-trained adult dog. What else could anyone wish for in a new companion"?

His foster mom says he fits in fabulously with her 4 other dogs and they even congregate on the bed at the same time on occasion too, and he is good with our cat!

This boy will need a home that can offer him the exercise and direction he needs to grow up to be a good puppy!

As we learn more, we will update, but if you would like to meet Rookie, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org

More about this rescue

Early in 1994, members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club began to see the need for an organization to rehabilitate and find homes for displaced and abused Golden Retrievers. A number of folks in this club began organizing an ad hoc rescue group. As the number of rescues increased over a period of months, this “wet behind the ears” group came up with a name and in 1996, incorporated the organization now known as Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND). The rest, as they say, is history!
