My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for Love? Meet Myrtle!

Are you ready to meet the perfect mix of shy, sweet, and sassy? Myrtle, our 1-year and 9-month-old Border Collie mix, is on the hunt for her Forever home!

About Myrtle:

      * A little shy at first, but give her a few days, and she’ll be your new best friend.
      * A true snuggle bug! Indoors, she’ll stick to your side like glue, demanding affection and giving it in return.
      * Plays wonderfully with her current canine buddies—a bouncy Labrador puppy and a gentle Great Pyrenees. She just needs time to warm up (about 5 days).
      * Loves backyard zoomies and smiles while she runs! Seriously, she grins!
   * Athletic and always up for a good walk, but after that, she’s all about the couch cuddles.
*Myrtle’s separation anxiety is gone! With some training and love, she’s learned to enjoy playing outside with the other dogs. She can even watch you leave without stressing—it’s a huge win for this clever girl!

Myrtle’s Quirks:

Not a fan of sharing toys or food (who can blame her?), so she prefers solo meals.
She has a bit of a bossy streak (classic Border Collie!). She likes to tell the other dogs what to do, and if they don’t listen, she’ll give them a playful little scolding.

She’ll let you know if she’s been outside too long—her bark means, “Time for love, please!”
By 9:30 pm, she’s ready to clock out for the night, snuggled and snoozing.

Myrtle is housebroken, affectionate, and full of personality. She’s looking for a home where patience and love are in abundance. If you’re ready for a journey from shy smiles to endless snuggles, Myrtle is ready to meet you!
Let’s make Myrtle’s dream of a Forever home come true.

More about this rescue

The Milo Foundation is an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization providing an alternative for homeless pets throughout California, through education, adoption services, and providing sanctuary for animals until permanent homes can be found.

Founded in August of 1994, The Milo Foundation Sanctuary is located on two hundred and eighty-three acres in Mendocino County - offering lots of room for the animals to run and play. The Milo Sanctuary animals typically (but not exclusively) are harder to adopt animals and those needing more rural type homes, such as dogs with social or behavioural challenges, feral cats, horses and other farm animals. The Milo Point Richmond Adoption Center is where the majority of our new rescue intake takes place, typically friendly, adoptable cats and dogs, puppies and kittens rescued from shelters where they were facing euthanasia. The Sanctuary is where highly active or reactive dogs can go and have plenty of space, other canine companions (if they are dog friendly) and live in a stress free environment until such time as the right adoption match can be found.

The Milo Sanctuary is what enables Milo to be a No-Kill organization. Milo brings dogs back and forth from the Adoption Center (MPR) to the Sanctuary to give dogs a break from the stresses of the kennel environment and back to MPR later to try again at being adopted. Potential adopters also do come up to the Sanctuary to adopt, by appointment.
