Grimm is a young adult cat that was found as a stray in bad health and in need of medical intervention. At intake Grimm barely weighed 4 pounds (extremely underweight for an adult cat), was very weak from dehydration, and suffering from an upper respiratory infection. We got him to the vet as quickly as possible where he had bloodwork done, received fluids, and we got him started on antibiotics. With bloodwork we found he was positive for FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus) which is a viral infection in cats that attacks and weakens the immune system. This causes even the smallest illnesses to have a bigger effect on cats with FIV then what we would see in cats without FIV. While a perfectly healthy cat could possibly get over a upper respiratory infection without medical intervention, Grimm couldn't due to FIV weakening his immune system. With long term antibiotics, a steady diet, and TLC from volunteers we were able to get Grimm healthy again, but unfortunately FIV is a lifelong disease once a cat gets it.
Despite Grimm's rough start he is a very loving cat, and is actually quite playful. He loves to bat at mouse toys, or jingle balls. He will leisurely chase after a wand toy, or a toy if thrown across the room. He also loves to get attention, and is quite an outgoing cat that would make a great family pet. It is generally recommended that FIV cats don't live with other cats as FIV can be contagious to other felines (the risk is very low but better to be safe), but it is not contagious to dogs so a canine friend could be a possibility for Grimm. Grimm can live a long, normal, healthy life like any other cat with a healthy diet, and routine vet care to make sure vaccines are current.
Grimm's adoption fee is $100, and he is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, negative for FeLV, and microchipped.
