My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Godfrey is an energetic guy! He's looking for a home where he'll have an outlet for all that playful energy. He seems to really like toys, especially ones he can squish in his mouth. If you're up for adventure, he's your guy!

His foster says "Don't let Godfrey's stoic look fool you, he's a big sweetie! He is calm, gentle, and very loving. He is great on the leash and loves a casual walk with some good sniffs along the way. People really interest him and he wants to greet everyone he sees! Other dogs, cats, and squirrels interest him but he had no aggressive reaction to any when out on walks. Godfrey is perfectly content with snoozing away on the couch but can be roused with the sound of a bag of treats. He's very food motivated and loves to show off his trick of catching treats in the air. He can sit too!

Godfrey has had mixed interactions with dogs. He could be paired with a dog his size after slow and proper introductions, but would do fine as the only dog in the house. He is a bit too large for small dogs and other small animals. He is better suited for older children (10+) because he doesn't quite know how big he is. He gets very excited to meet new people and is learning how to meet people gently because he just wants to give all the love he has. Once the initial excitement wears off, he is relaxed and ready to chill. He is a good mix of playful and couch potato. He is crate trained, but has been trusted to be left free in the house with no issues.

...

Godfrey continues to be such a good boy! He has mastered sit, wait, and is improving on his recall every day with clicker training. He loves lick mats, his tug toys, and pretty much all dog-safe food that he has tried (especially broccoli). He doesn't get into anything he is not supposed to and is not destructive. He does well with baths, ear cleanings, and teeth brushing. He loves his winter coat, because that means it's outside time! Godfrey isn't the biggest fan of the cold and snow, but he still likes getting the fresh air sniffies and stretching his legs before wanting to come back inside. Godfrey is generally a low maintenance dog who loves the relaxed life. His furever home will be so lucky to have this sweet boy!"

Volunteers say "Godfrey did such a nice job out and about around my apartment today. Very calm and gentle boy. Very excited around new people but clams down easily. He's not vocal so if someone was looking for a quiet and fun dog he would be perfect for them."

More about this shelter

Welcome to CMHS! In continuous operation since 1943, the Central Missouri Humane Society promotes the well-being of companion animals – pets that enrich the lives of the people who love them.

The Columbia Humane Society was formed in 1943 to provide shelter and care for Columbia’s abandoned animals. Originating in a little structure on Creasy Springs Road, the organization has grown into today’s Central Missouri Humane Society, a regional animal welfare agency caring for thousands of animals annually and providing veterinary services for low-income pet owners.
