My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Egyptian Rose Onion, aka Ms. Onion or Mother of Onions, is a recovering street cat with great companion potential. She was the scourge of her neighbourhood for years, depositing reams of kittens widely, and very likely the Mom of Onion Blossom and Henry Thomas Onion (now adopted). No teen Mom, Ms. O. seems physically robust, and she bats ferociously at things on strings and especially feather wands. Looking at her sweet face, you sense that she is really just waiting to make friends. She will use a cardboard scratcher and likes to rub against things, including people, when a meal is in the offing. Her table manners (leaving nothing on her plate) and litter box use are impeccable. We are still working to get her comfortable with the inevitable changes to routine daily life. She initiates head rubs on hands and legs familiar to her and has stopped swatting when familiar arms approach her. She seems to feel safer sticking to floor level digs. It’s hard to know exactly what she thinks, but routine caution rather than fear seems to guide her behaviour. We are confident that when she succeeds in shedding a layer or two of husk, the perfect onion will be revealed. At this time, she would need a very patient, quiet home. She is not afraid of other cats, but may have the potential still to see them as food rivals.

More about this rescue

Since 1996 SCAT Street Cat Rescue's prime focus has been feral cats because of the limited options available for them. TNR is a successful option instead of the traditional trap and kill. The majority of the cats rescued by SCAT, however, are socialized and available for adoption. As the city grows, so to does the need for our services. Adopt, Donate, Volunteer, TODAY!
