My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 1/23/25: Thank you for checking in! I am so proud of Benedict. I have mentioned in previous updates the progress he has made in his physical health and he has made progress in his reactivity, too! We have been working on clicker training and positive reinforcement when we see other dogs on our walks. When a dog is across the street, he used to lunge and bark and now he is just alert. I`m sure with continued love and training, he`ll be able to get even closer! He`s such a good boy and I have thoroughly enjoyed having him as a foster!

Update 12/01/24: Benedict and I just got back from Thanksgiving at my parents where he was spoiled rotten with new toys, scratches, and getting to lick the bowl clean! I was able to catch the tail end of his zoomies in the attached video. He doesn’t let you pet him on his hips or back legs, but I started him on Cosequin and take him on short walks so I’m hoping that’ll help with his sensitivity.

Update 12/27/24: Benedict has made remarkable progress in the home environment and on his Cosequin! When I first met him, the staff described him as a `grumpy old man` and he would snap especially when touching his hips and back legs. Now, he greets me at the door with tail wags, was a sweetheart around my family at Christmas, and let me give him a bath without any problems. His next heartworm vet appointment is January 4 so hopefully I will have more updates on his health then. He is very reactive around other dogs (thankfully it doesn`t seem aggressive, just a lot of barking and lunging) so I would recommend a home where he can be the only pet. I am working on giving him positive reinforcement when he sees a dog and is calm so that is a work in progress. He has learned sit, is housebroken, voluntarily sleeps in his crate all night, and snoozed like a champ on multiple 3.5+ hour drives. He will be a great dog for a home where he can get all the attention and Nylabones (his favorite toy!).
