My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Bentley: A Charming, Playful Beagle Mix Looking for His Forever Home

Meet Bentley, a lovable 5-year-old Beagle mix with a heart full of affection and a playful spirit! Bentley is a sweet, easy-going dog who has lived well with other dogs and is looking for a family who can give him the attention, exercise, and training he needs to thrive. Bentley is the perfect blend of calm and energetic, making him an ideal companion for an active household.

Bentley has lived with kids aged 8 and up and would do well with dog-savvy children who understand his needs and can help provide him with structure and consistency. Though Bentley passed his cat test, he will need a slow introduction to ensure a smooth transition into a home with feline friends. A slow introduction means allowing Bentley and the cat to gradually become acquainted, ensuring they have time to get used to each other`s scent, presence, and boundaries before having direct interaction. This approach reduces stress for both pets and helps them build positive associations with one another.

Training & Behavior Needs:

Bentley is a lovable and friendly dog, but like many Beagles, he could use some basic training. He’s a good listener and eager to learn, so with some guidance, he’ll make great strides in becoming a well-behaved member of your family. Here’s what you need to know about Bentley’s training needs:

Basic Training: Bentley is still working on basic commands and could benefit from continued training on sit, stay, and come. He’s an eager-to-please dog and will respond well to positive reinforcement methods like treats and praise.

Leash Training: Bentley does tend to pull on the leash, which is common for Beagles due to their strong sense of smell and natural curiosity. He would benefit from regular leash training, such as using a harness designed to reduce pulling or practicing walking calmly on a leash in quiet areas.

Mental and Physical Stimulation: Bentley thrives when given the chance to burn off some energy. He would do well with multiple walks a day, playtime, and mental enrichment activities like puzzle toys or scent games. His calm demeanor is complemented by bursts of energy, and keeping him active will help balance these moments. His Beagle nose loves to be engaged, so activities that challenge his sense of smell will keep him mentally sharp and content.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require potential adopters to fill out an pre-adoption application. If that application is approved, the dog/cat must be spayed/neutered before it leaves our shelter (if not already done). If it is a puppy under 4 months old, we allow it to go home with the adopters under a foster care agreement until it is old enough to be returned for spay/neuter. Kittens are allowed to leave before spay/neuter is done, but they must be done within a certain time frame.
Fees: Dogs/puppies range from $150-300, depending on if they came in already spayed/neutered or if we paid to have that done.
Cats range from $80 - $140, though we often have deals on older cats or cats that have been there a long time.
Kittens are $60 with $25 refunded once it has been spayed/neutered.
All adoptions include at least the first vaccination, deworming, de-fleaing, microchip ID, and 6 weeks of pet insurance.
