Meet Eugene, a sweet and resilient boy ready for a fresh start! This gentle soul was rescued from a rural shelter near New Albany, Mississippi, where he faced a heartbreaking situation—an extended stay with his euthanasia date looming. Thankfully, a kind-hearted advocate stepped in, and we knew we had to help.
Eugene is currently in foster care, where he’s healing both physically and emotionally. He has a unique deformity on his right front paw—likely due to an old injury or a congenital condition—but it doesn’t slow him down. He walks just fine and is eager to explore the world.
Since his rescue, Eugene has started to gain confidence and show his playful, affectionate side. He’s understandably cautious, especially around men, but his loving foster is helping him build trust and self-assurance every day. With time, patience, and a gentle hand, Eugene is sure to flourish into the devoted companion he’s meant to be.
Eugene is set to begin heartworm treatment after arriving in New England on January 18th. He’s looking for a family who understands that healing takes time and will provide the love and stability he deserves.
If you’re ready to open your heart and home to this special boy, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and help Eugene write the next chapter of his journey!

More about this rescue
PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.
Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.
