My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*** Hello! I’m Sally, Your Bestest Fur-riend! ***

My hooman friends affectionately call me Silly Sally, and you can too! I'm an approximately 3-year-old German Shepherd mix girl weighing in at 72 lbs of beauty, charm and goofiness.

The first things you’ll notice about me are my soulful golden brown eyes, those cute bunny ears, and that ever-present, happy tongue-lolling grin. Cute, am I not?

My favoritest place in the whole wide world is the play yard. That’s my kingdom, and I feel like a queen when I’m there! Ah, those amazing smells, the warm sunlight on my fur, that wind booping me on the nose—its Heaven! Sometimes, my volunteers have to bribe me with treats to get me back inside!

Another favorite of mine? Toys! Especially tennis balls and squeakies! You’ll catch me pawing a ball and going around in circles like a soccer pro or rolling on my back, squeaking a toy in my mouth. Sometimes, I’ll toss a toy in the air and run around, looking adorably confused (head tilts and all), wondering where it went. Now you know how I earned my nickname!

When we first meet, I may seem aloof and act like I’m too cool for you. But wait…give me a little time (and some jerky treats) and you’ll see what my volunteer friends see - the affectionate and goofy side of me. You’ll also notice that I’m super alert—if something catches my eye, I pay attention! A car driving by? I’m on it. A volunteer walking past? Yep, I'm checking them out too. What can I say? I like to stay on top of things.

I know how to “Sit,” “Stay” and go “Down”. I absolutely love leash walks and, in my excitement to read all the pee-mails, I may pull sometimes. But if you stop and tell me to “Come back,” I’ll be right at your side.

I love spending time with hoomans, but I’m selective when it comes to doggos and seem to prefer hanging out with the boys. I can get a little vocal and speak my mind when doggos walk past me. But say “No, leave it” and ask me to “Focus” on you, and I’ll try to listen to you, especially when there’s a treat coming my way!

Speaking of treats, while I’ll sit and take them from you gently, I may sometimes forget my manners and get a tad bit excited to get to it.

I’m looking for someone who has the experience and patience to handle large, energetic doggos and can give me the time, training and exercise I need to thrive and be the paw-some best friend I know I can be!

If you’re ready for a life filled with love, laughter, squeaky toys and tennis balls, c’mon over and meet me! Give me a chance to show you what a good girl I am.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Please browse our adoptable animals. We make every effort to keep our listings updated.

Each of our animals has contact information in the description - either referencing the phone number of the foster volunteer who is fostering the animal or East County Animal Shelter contact information if a shelter animal.

If you have questions, please use the contact information in the description directly. We attempt to forward emails sent to contact@tvar.org to the foster though it is not necessarily before the animal is adopted. Also, volunteers who monitor this email do not know the animals whereas the fosters do!

If a dog or puppy is in foster with TVAR, please fill out an adoption application (available here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/TVAR/Dog). We consider each application and pick the best one for the animal in question. In general, we do not do out of area adoptions. Kittens do not need applications completed - just contact the foster!

If an animal is at ECAS, they have their own adoption process. Please go to ECAS (they are open daily 11:30am to 5:30pm except holidays) to meet the animal and learn about ECAS's adoption process.

All TVAR animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, treated for worms and fleas, and microchipped. Felines are FIV/FeLV tested. Many of our pets also come with a "packed bag" that can include a variety of goodies like bedding, food, toys, leashes, and even private training sessions with our professional trainers. Adoption fees vary by species. Our fee range is $120-$350. The foster volunteer can provide specifics for the animals in their care.

Go meet their pets

**Please go to www.tvar.org to check adoption event status before going** Dog adoptions take place at the Pleasanton Farmers Market, at the park on the corner of First and Angela streets, every Saturday morning from 10am to 1pm. All of our adoptable dogs (and selected ECAS dogs) are available on our website and on adopt-a-pet.com.

Kittens adoptions take place every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm at the Dublin PetSmart, pending availability. During kitten season (March to December), we have way more kittens than we could ever hope to post online, so come visit us at PetSmart to see our selection.

All of our adoptable animals can also be met/adopted by appointment made directly with the foster volunteers.

More about this rescue

Tri-Valley Animal Rescue (TVAR) was founded in 1992 and is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving the East Bay (San Francisco Bay Area). We primarily place shelter animals in foster care of TVAR volunteers while trying to find them permanent homes. Although we do not have a facility of our own, we help over 1000 animals find forever homes yearly through the hard work and dedication of our East County Animal Shelter shelter volunteers who socialize shelter animals daily and assist the public in selecting a pet to adopt.

We have a variety of volunteer programs including a shelter program and four foster programs. We are always looking for more volunteers - especially fosters. If you are interested in volunteering with us, please check out our volunteer page (https://www.tvar.org/volunteer/) for information.
