My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Boone is a handsome 3-year old male Treeing Walker Coonhound who was brought to the HSOV on October 23, 2024 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who had picked him up on Goose Run Road in the Marietta Ohio area. Boone was wearing two collars (one of them appeared to be an electronic collar/anti-bark collar). Unfortunately there was neither an id tag nor a dog license tag on his collar .. And he was not microchipped.

Boone has a black/brown/white short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful tan-and-white Coonhound face with brown 'teddy bear' eyes, a large muzzle, and extra-large floppy ears.

This big boy has a friendly outgoing personality.

These photos were taken on the afternoon of October 26th when HSOV Shelter Manager Tracy Lynn accompanied him for his Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet pictures. Boone was ready to explore the great outdoors but eventually agreed to give us some of his 'Westminster' poses (smile).

Boone weighs 71 lbs and is strong on the other end of a leash.

In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Boone will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership.

Boone went home with a foster family on November 9, 2024 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered.

Update: Boone came back to our shelter on November 16, 2024, and his foster family is heartbroken. Boone is looking for a home where he could be the only dog since he doesn't do well with other dogs (especially males).

Boone is housetrained.

Boone has tested positive for Lyme disease and is currently receiving treatment. He has also been given rabies vaccine.

Boone went home with a foster family on November 22, 2024 but was returned on December 3, 2024 because of an unfortunate incident with another male dog in the home (and his foster dad was bitten when trying to separate them). So Boone was placed on a mandatory 10-day bite quarantine in our shelter.

His foster dad reported that Boone is a great dog for a "no other pets" home. He is a super fearless hunter and returns on beep commands from his collar and wants to please his human person. He knows the "heel" command and is crate-trained. Boone is also housetrained.

Boone has resource guarding behavior with regard to his food around other animals (but not with humans).

Boone is NOT good with other dogs and will attack other dominant dogs. Boone is NOT good with cats. He is good with children.

Boone is looking for an appropriate home with an experienced handler where he would be an "only child" and would not have to share with other animals.
