My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In Johnson, VT
If you are looking for a dog with pep in their step, look no further. Lexi is a 2yr old, red-tri, Australian Shepherd, with an upbeat and fun loving personality even after a rough start in life.

Lexi came to Australian Shepherds Furever after being surrendered by her owner, along with her 11 newborn puppies (6/17/24). Thanks to ASF and their foster, Lexi and the puppies were safe and thriving. Now that the puppies have all been adopted to wonderful homes it is now Lexi's turn.

Lexi will need a fenced yard, and continued training on her recall. She is a quick learner and knows basic commands like sit, stay, come and easy. She is not a jumper even though she adores everyone big or small, and would like to be right with her people as much as possible.

Lexi is a very loyal dog, and super smart. She is excellent at fetch, and loves belly rubs and going for rides in the car. Lexi is a very well behaved dog and can be left home alone. She is potty trained, as long as she is not left in the house too long or she might have an accident.

Lexi would do wonderful in a home where she is the only dog. She is good with submissive male dogs and all cats, but not fond of the female dogs in the foster's home. She will resource guard her toys and food from other dogs, but not her humans. At times she can be picky about her food, especially if her favorite human is not home.

She is still somewhat timid at the vets, but if they take it slow and easy, and don't try to pin her down she's fine. She has NEVER tried to bite even though she is very scared. Lexi is up to date on vaccines, and is spayed. She is being fostered in Vermont.

More about this rescue

Nancy Gonzalez, founder and CEO, created Australian Shepherds Furever (ASF), a non-profit organization to promote the educated adoption and rescue of the Australian Shepherd

(Aussie) dog breed.

In July of 2012, ASF initiated as a Facebook page hoping to have 1,000 user "likes" by the end one year. The page quickly outgrew expectations, now with a network of of

90,000 individuals striving to provide aid and refuge to Aussies all over the country.

Using the Facebook page as a platform, the website www.australianshepherdsfurever.org was developed as an additional resource aimed at educating the public on this intelligent

and beautiful breed. It provides resources for those seeking help, or those willing to contribute to the Adopt, Save, Foster (ASF) philosophy. Through this philosophy, ASF has

saved the lives of countless dogs and helped to provide assistance to those that have nowhere else to turn.

We as humans have a responsibility to speak up and take action in favor of those beings that are less fortunate. Thanks to a team of passionate and proactive volunteers,

Aussies nationwide are given a chance at a better life through Australian Shepherds Furever.
