Astoria is a 9-month-old shepherd mix. Despite growing up in the shelter, Astoria is sweet and trusting towards humans. She loves pets and belly rubs. She also likes to sit on people's laps and give kisses.
Astoria is very smart. She pays close attention to people and responds to command readily. She will be a very loyal dog and is very easy to train. She is already great on leash - heels nicely and checks in with her handlers periodically with eye contact. She also quickly picked up basic commands like sit, down, leave it, crawl and roll over.
Astoria is good with other dogs and cats. She is careful when meeting other dogs, and will relax and become playful after making sure they are safe. She has a running and wrestling play style. Astoria has herding instinct and will nibble on other dogs legs when she plays. She also tugs on people's pants or sleeves lightly to get attention. Being 40 lbs only, Astoria is not too overwhelming during dog play.
Astoria entered foster home on January 11 and has since been housetrained. She knows to take her potty outside and will utilize a doggy door if you have one. Astoria responded very positively to routine and positive reinforcement. Her ideal family will be one who continues to provide routine, guidance, and love to support her growth.

More about this rescue
Soul Dog is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization founded with the mission to spay/neuter and protect animals. We are currently a small group of committed volunteers making a difference in the life of one animal at a time. As an all volunteer administration, all donations made to Soul Dog go directly to improving the health of the pets that share our lives.
Soul Dog is proactive in animal welfare advancing the need for spaying and neutering our pets to reduce overpopulation. We travel to rural communities on Native American reservations, where spaying and neutering will only happen if it is nearly free or very convenient. Soul Dog works with volunteer veterinarians to provide the spaying and neutering service at no cost to the public. Donations are used to defray the costs associated with medications, supplies, and the operating cost for clinics.
