Fragile Package – Handle with Care.  Venus came to HWMAR in October. She was extremely nervous, scared and unsure about all the new surroundings she encountered. However, she was overwhelmed with excitement when she was reunited with former mate Chunk. (Who we believe to be Venus’s mom and who is fostered in the same home) They are extremely bonded and have so many similarities in looks and personality. It has taken Venus weeks to come out of her shell and bond with her foster parents and their pack of four adult dogs. Her foster parents, who have been fostering for more than 10 years, sought out help from the rescue’s trainer on how to better acclimate Venus into the family and pack. After two months of setting boundaries, teaching her commands, taking her on pack walks and giving her time to decompress, Venus is now showing them her true sweet personality. She enjoys playing with Chunk, chasing her foster siblings in the yard, playing with toys and snuggling on the couch on her foster Dad’s lap. Since Venus was not socialized well where she came from, she is very intimidated by new people. She will sometimes growl, bark and back away. She is looking for a couple or single owner who has a quieter household that will invest in her training. Venus is extremely smart and needs to be mentally and physically challenged. She will not give instant love or attention. She needs time to adapt and trust slowly. And we promise in time, she will in return give the gift of unconditional love. She is a huge wiggle butt and gets super excited when it’s time for her walks or a car ride. At this time, we don’t recommend her going to a family with children as that energy can be too much for her. If you are looking for a bonded pair, then consider Venus and Chunk as the ultimate super-sized gift! We are looking for that special person to give her a chance like her foster parents have at being the best dog she can be.

Go meet their pets

Our rescue is foster based, therefore you will need to make an appointment to visit with any of our animals that are available for adoption.
Most of our adoptable animals come from high kill shelters. Occasionally we are given specific breed information on the animals, but more often, we have to make an educated guess as to breed or mixture based on size, color and physical characteristics.
