Meet Dollar! Dollar came to THS after his owners could not take him with them when they moved. He was able to spend his holidays in a foster home during our Home for the Holidays event! This is what his foster had to say about him:
`Dollar would follow me everywhere; he just LOVES PEOPLE! He has a very loving personality! He`s a very heavy chewer so I make sure that the toys he plays with are very durable -- he really likes balls and the bright colors seem to attract his attention more. He LOVES balls that squeak and other toys that squeak, but they have to be durable otherwise he will chew and pull the squeakers out.
He listens very well, he definitely knows the `No` word, and stops as soon as you tell him. We have been working on his Sits, Downs, & Off commands. He does jump up when he gets excited, but I found that if I hold my hand up like a high five at his nose he knows to stop and then sits down. When I first brought him home he struggled going into the crate, but now, I just have to throw a few treats inside and 1 or 2 on the floor in front of it and tell him to go to his room and he does. He is a quick learner!
When I sit in my lazy girl to watch a show at night, he comes up and snuggles with me. He is a very gentle soul! He just wants to be around people and right now he`s in my home office helping me type. It was a pleasure fostering Dollar these past 3 weeks and I am sure he will be adopted soon with his loving disposition!`
Adopters will have the option of fostering him for one week through our foster to adopt program to determine if he is a good fit for your home prior to finalizing his adoption!

More about this shelter
The Toledo Area Humane Society was founded on February 14, 1884. As one of the oldest humane societies in the United States, our original purpose was to prevent cruelty and provide refuge for both animals and children. To this day, we investigate cruelty to animals and provide homeless, abused and abandoned animals with protection and safety. TAHS is a private, non-profit organization and receives no funding from the United Way, the government, or national humane organizations. Donations from local individuals, corporations and generated by our fundraisers are the sole source of funding. Programs like Forever Friends, for people who include TAHS in their wills, and the Golden Paw League, for people who give gifts of $250 or more, have been established to give people donation options and to recognize their generosity. Volunteers help supplement the staff assisting with tasks both inside and outside of our facility. Volunteers provide enrichment for animals such as walking dogs or socializing cats. The Humane Education and Pet Therapy Visitation programs are dependent on our volunteers. Foster care volunteers provide a safe, nurturing environment for animals too young for adoption and for sick or injured animals. It is our goal to help every animal at-risk for abandonment or cruelty, and to find a home for every adoptable animal. The Humane Society is the only animal welfare group in this community who will give refuge to any animal at-risk for abuse or neglect, regardless of its type, health, age or whether we have space.
