Age: ~ 4.5 years (as of 11/8/24)
Weight: 38 lbs (as of 11/6/24)
This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.
Straight from Gilligan's Island (by way of Arkansas) meet Ginger! This glamorous 4 ½ year-old girl appears to be a Texas Heller mix. She is a delightful adult dog with a heart full of love. Her personality is as sweet as her name suggests, and she carries a gentle demeanor that instantly endears her to everyone she meets. She's not just sweet and gentle, though. Ginger is also smart and playful, her intelligence shines through in her quick learning and eagerness to please. She is house trained, crate trained and walks pretty good on the leash and would love to join you on a walk so she can get more practice and exercise, as she needs to lose a little weight.
Ginger is a moderately active dog who would love a fenced-in yard to play in but would be fine with regular walks and time to run and play in a secure area. We recommend that you and Ginger sign up for some dog training classes together. Group training classes are a great way to reinforce important skills, learn some new tricks, and get some quality socialization time with other furry friends.
As a recent mom, her maternal instincts make her incredibly nurturing. She loves following her people around, her loyalty is unwavering. Ginger is a sweet and happy girl who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make her dream come true? Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family.
Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history.
An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
